I'm a 19 year old boy from Melbourne Australia who is currently studying aviation and will be finished in 2 weeks. Being a Jewish boy and like many love israel and feel they would like to defend for the state of Israel. My passion is to be a pilot wether commercial or a fighter pilot. but the question im really asking if someone could reply is how hard is it for a Australian boy to join the israeli air force and how long must you serve if becoming a pilot in the Israli Air Force.

A little help here?

Hello, my name is Lemuel Farias de Assis. Im a boy from Brazil, i am 14 years old but i am starting to work on my life project, the dream of my life, wich is to an IAF fighter pilot. I am a hard-working, inteligent, student and im starting to learn hebrew, but this is almost nothing compared with the chalenges i have foward. First, altough i have a suspicious jewish descendence, because of the place where i live, i cannot prove it, and im still working on that. Second I would like to have someone's help in understanding if its really necessary to prove it, and, if i need to israeli citizenship, things like that. Thirdly: Can i do a pilot course here, and use it as a base to pass in IAF?Is there a limit age to enter in IAF? I have other questions, but as you can see im a little lost. Any help would be very, very, aprecciated and would make me very happy.

ex Belgian Gloster MeteorT.7 in IADAF service

Info on Belgo/Israeli T.7's
Can somebody give me informations about Belgian Gloster Meteor T.7’s that were sold to the IDAF? How much aircraft? This is are all the information I have:
Meteor T.8 = T.7 1/2 or Mulet
Israeli AF s/n:
"20" dd. 041257 w/o 260960
"21" dd. 041257 SOC 1970 - Preserved IDAF Museum, Hatzerim A.B.)
"22" dd. 250158 SOC 1970 ex. Belg. A.F.
          "23" dd. 250158 b/u spares 1967, ex Belg. A.F.

A single Meteor T.7 (Isr. A.F. s/n "19") has also been delivered on 041257 (same date as the first 2 T.8's) which could also be an ex-Belg. A.F. machine for that reason.
Rumours also have indicated that 5 a/c were delivered. The T.8's are most probably the Belgian a/c, as no other modification from this type is known anywhere else.
2 T7/8 (converted in 1957 by Fairey) were sold to Israel in 1958 (ex ED6, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 26, 31 or 32, the most probable are ED14 and 15).
1 T7/8 was used by the TT-flight in 1957.
1 T7 was converted to T4.

4 aircraft were w/o in 1957, 14 or 18 in 1958. 18 aircraft remained in service till 1962.
Israeli Air Force
        2 1957 T.7/T.8 19,20 Belgian built
        3 Jan-58 T.7/T.8 21,22,23 Belgian built
       -1 26-Sep-60 T.7/T.8 20 Gideon Magen/Shlomo Koren Bird ingested into #2 engine, crew recovered

       -1 18-Jul-62 T.7/T.8 19 Rafi Lev/? Crash landing, crew recovered
-1 28-Nov-66 T.7/T.8 14 Boaz Gafni/Nachuam Roman - Spin at final with one engine, crew killed
       -1 T.7/T.8 21 To IAF Museum

I'm looking for the poster of the 3 Israeli F-15's flying over Auschwitz recently. It has become a relatively famous photo and is given to new pilots out of the IAF flight school I believe. Any help would be appreciated.

my father was in 106 squadron

there is many different story's about the 1949 106 squadron, and they all seem to contradict each other.
well as my father was in the 106 squadron and is still alive today i have been told different story's of what most of the ones on the net say.
i think the truth behind the 106 squadron was that it was used as a special forces squadron involved in reconnaissance missions and were mostly top secret so records of things just don't exist i do know my father does not like to talk about it very much and its very hard for me to get information out of him, but some of the story's are very interesting. he was a warrant officer and flight engineer.
and in those days he was the guy in charge of a plane as he also could do the captains job or run the radio and being the engineer if there was a pilot or captain they would always have to ask him what they could do before they did it as basically he was the guy in charge. it didn't help him much when his wellington/converted Lancaster exploded somewhere around 20,000 ft though. and the only reason he survived the explosion was he had swapped places with the radio operator to give him a rest and there is steel shutters on each side of the radio area that shielded him from the blast. he landed in the jungle and was found in a very bad way by jungle people and it took two weeks for the Raf to reach him there.
the Raf doctors said no medicine known to modern man"back then" could heal a man like what the jungle people had done with him. wrapped him up in berry's and leaves apparently. he is now over 80 years old and still comes hiking on the moors with me. he has never received a pension from the Raf so i think he resents them. but if there is anything anyone wants to ask about the 106 squadron, i could ask him and maybe shed some light on the matter. my email is stu1972440@hotmail.com thanks.

The Turkey and the Bull

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top
of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."

"Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull.
They are packed with nutrients."

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough
strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating
some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night,
the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story: BullSHIT might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Second IAF Spitfire D-131

I want to build the second hebryd spitfire which was build from wracks and parts from a RAf junkyard and some Egyptian Spitfire parts.
However the camouflage of this Spit is of a big question to me. I doubt if Alex Yoffe in his book "Spitfire Mk.IX in the IAF service" is correct when he states that Spitfire 2001/11 former D-131 had a camouflage of dark green/ocean grey/medium sea grey. When compared pictures with earlier pictures of D-131 you notice a complete different Spitfire (see exhausts).
What I discovered from the few pictures of D-131 (the second hebryd Spit) is that the aircraft was painted in a green colour, in various sources called Dark green primer. This seems odd as there is to my knowledge no dark green primer. I presume the Israeli's used paint that they get their hands on and this means mostly RAF colours and Czech colours. There is no Dark Green primer in de RAF inventory nor in the Czech inventory. My conclusion would be it was painted in an overal green/grey colour as used on the Avia's what is called RLM 02 (a Czech variant which was also close to RLM 86 but faded to RLM 02 quickly). I have a picture of later date possibly eind 1948 or beginning 1949 where the back fuselage and tail was in a darker colour. I wonder what they did: painting it in fresh RLM 02, added Dark Earth or even Dark green?
There is no way it was repainted in Dark Green/ Ocean Grey / Medium Sea Grey and convert it to a MK.IXe just like the Czech Spitfires unless it was damaged sincerely and had to be completely rebuild.
I would like to see pictures of this Spit later in his career lets say 1949/1950 with that darker back fuselage. I know there was a picture of this Spitfire plus a few other airplanes at Ramat David in "Air Enthusiast" maybe No. 64 or 66 or later, I'm not sure as I don't posess this No. magazine I only saw it then on the book shelve.
I would like to know more about this plane however its very specific, I know, but maybe I've luck with you guys!
TIA

1973 F-4 versus SAM

I have been trying to find out what kind of wepons the IDF F-4 used in Yom Kippur (1973) to destroy the SAM sites. I found some reference about Standard Missiles (AGM-78) but it seems phantoms were not prepared for use this until the arival of latter models equiped with TISEO in 1974. I wonder if the IDF had Bull pup , Shirke (AGM-45) , napalm or some kind of cluster bombs (Mk 20 Rockeye) for this task?. All the references I found said phantoms were loaded with M-117 (750 punds bombs) and Mk-82, but there is nothing about some GBU-8 or GBU-20 smart bombs. I´ll realy appreciate any information about to help me to finnished the IDF F-4 phantom I´m working on.

I want to model an average Shahak in Yom Kippur War colours but one with some different kill markings than the usual Syrian or Egyptian roundels. According to Shlomo Aloni's Mirage and Nesher Aces in the Osprey aircraft of the aces range Shahak 19 may have downed 2 Iraqi Hunters as well as two egyptian and two syrian Migs. Can anyone confirm this? Or can anyone suggest a different Shahak to model?

F-15I Roll-out scheme

Hi there,

I have a question regarding the first F-15I Ra’am roll out:

Going through my files I noticed a picture of the first F-15I of the roll-out. An F-15I with some kind of bird silhouette on the tail. I believe it was on this aircraft on his roll out when the F-15I appeared in the IAF scheme. Although I know it was not used it very interesting to me. So I have a few questions regarding this marking on the tail:

1. Was it carried on both sides?

2. Did it fly with this marking?

3. Do you have a close up of this marking (picture)??

I’ve attached the roll out picture of the frist Ra’am which I want to build which had the unknown marking on the tail.

I’m thinking of using the 1/72 scale Airfix F-15E converting it to an F-15I with this scheme and I think it can be painted on the tail. I just need more close up pictures!!

Maybe you cal help???

Kind regards

Dick van Faassen
