The Honeymooners proudly present the highly anticipated Melbourne show for the legendary
AKUFEN.
Marc Leclair aka Akufen / Horror Inc (and many more!) has come a long way in the years
since the release of his now-classic debut album, My Way (Force Inc. 2002). In that time
he’s earned a reputation as one of the planet’s most in-demand DJ’s – not to
mention one of the scene’s most talented – delivering prime-time sets to exuberant
crowds all over the world.
It’s his legendary Fabric CD that seems to have cemented Akufen’s status as an
absolute underground superstar amongst house and techno dancefloors alike. For those who
show up looking for a whirlwind micro-house extravaganza, along the lines of this
monstrous Fabric 17 mix, walk away knowing that Akufen is a DJ who shows up not fulfill
expectations but to trump them. “My DJ sets are more technological dance music than
techno, with still a bit of house thrown in.”
Furthermore, having remixed the likes of Richie Hawtin, Cabaret Voltaire, Yello, Massive
Attack, Thomas Dolby, and Thomas Brinkmann, plus licensing his tracks to compilations on
taste-maker labels such Kompakt, Perlon and Fabric, there aren’t many sets of ears and
feet that haven’t lost it to his infectious grooves and unique aesthetic. For a lot of
producers, the Akufen way has simply become the way to assemble tracks. After the release
of My Way, Leclair was humbled by the unparalleled accolades and legions of admiring peers
who began paying homage to his micro-sampling aesthetic.
But, when he’s not DJing, Leclair considers himself a conceptual artist first and music
producer second. In 2005, Leclair issued a second full-length called Musique pour 3 femmes
enceintes, which he performed at London’s Tate Modern. He has also performed
internationally at ARS Electronica (as part of 5mm with Gabriel Coutu-Dumont), the MUTEK
Festival (Montreal), SONAR (Barcelona), Transmediale Festival (Berlin), Decibel Festival
(Seattle), Ten Days Off Festival (Belgium), Winter Music Conference (Miami), and numerous
others.
And yet, when not recording music or traveling around the world’s museums, Leclair
finds time to remix other artists, run his own label Musique Risquee, work on various
side projects… and most importantly EXCITE and INSPIRE dancefloors everywhere. He’ll
do it again at Ffour on Saturday 26 July.
