Please use the ADD
Event forms to add your events to the SPRACI events listings.
Posting events on the discussion forums does not create listings.
Listings are searchable by date, city, etc and therefore need some information to be in
seperate fields.
The "ADD EVENT" forms are the correct ones to use for upcoming events.
If the event is at a venue already in the list on the form you can choose it to prefill
the venue field (and map coordinates if available) or if it is not there you can simply
enter it on the form.
If you want people to be able to view a street map for the venue you can click on
"geocode this" (which appears on the form if coordinates are not already available) and
find the venue location by moving the map around till the center is over the venue (when
you close the map it will ask you if you want to use the coordinates) - this is not
compulsory but may help people to find their way to your event!
You are of course also allowed to post about and discuss events here on the forums but
remember that to get an event into the events listings it must be posted in the events
section!
If you want to add lots of events to the listings on a regular basis and already list
them on your own site you may wish to consider marking up your page in hCalendar (with hCard/geo for the
venue/location/city - see microformats.org for more info on
this -
it is easy to do without altering the look of your page) or create a data feed in RSS+Event or iCal (iCal feeds must be for one city
only due to lack of standardised support for cities/countries) and submitting the page or
feed to spraci ("add feed") for aggregation so that spraci can use it for automatic
updates.
We know that event organisers/promoters are busy people and this can save you time spent
on data entry (we believe you should only ever need to type your event details in once to
be able to use them everywhere!)
btw spraci's event listings are also syndicated by other sites and media.
(listings here are marked up in hCalendar and there are RSS, RSS+Event, iCal, etc feeds
and customisable javascript and flash widgets that allow people to display
spraci listings on their own websites and even REST and SOAP API methods that allow
people to use spraci events data in their own software.)
For testing/viewing hCalendar/hCard/geo data in a page you can use the excellent "Operator" plugin for
Firefox, (or also "Tails") which lets you do
other nice things like export events it finds to your calendar, hCards to your contacts,
show geo on maps, etc.
(you will also find lots of other sites are using Microformats to mark up events,
contacts, reviews, etc so this plugin is quite useful!)
btw - make sure you use the city/country name of the nearest area in spraci
in the location information for your events in data feeds. (if a suitable
city/state/country isn't there just email us and we will add it. You can also tell us to
put all your events in a certain city/area if your data feed format does not allow you to
specify it or you you wish to use different names for places)
