Yeah, a wierd title but i'm curious. Over here in the UK we've been hearing rumbling from Europe over an anti-muslim cartoon strip that was published - the one with Mohammed wearing a bomb-shaped turban? There seems to be a lot of fuss kicking off over it so i thought i'd get the ball rolling here. Have you heard about this in the US and Oz? And i guess the main point is this: 1) Is this a disgusting piece of racist trash that is offensive and should never have been published, or... 2) Is the Muslim population being too sensitive and over-reacting to what is, essentially, a cartoon strip? Discuss. |

I've heard of it, and its no more a pile of racist crap than the bible itself, being politically correct is never gonna sort the world out, being tolerant is the only way we'll all learn to live together, the only truly non-predjudiced people in the world are dead and the last time i spoke to one of them they werent too open minded either. if you take everything as a joke then nothing offends, its that simple, anybody who isnt some little emo should realise that by now as the only way to get acceptance for what we are is to accept that others wont and dont have to. its like the zen of happiness, make everything nothing and it loses its meaning and becomes what ever you want it to be. |

The Dutch embassy in Beirut was burned to the ground. A Catholic Priest has been shot dead. Threats have been made against the UK with people in London dressing up as Suicide Bombers. All this over a cartoon. Over-reaction much? Sorry, thought i'd get more of a response from the board. People are normally more politically open-minded and willing to discuss. Maybe the board is dead. |

[quote="glimmerrat"]The Dutch embassy in Beirut was burned to the ground. A Catholic Priest has been shot dead. Threats have been made against the UK with people in London dressing up as Suicide Bombers. - See, I don't have television, and I never read the paper really.. But it all seems nasty. I heard about the cartoon on a website, but they wouldn't show the cartoon so I have no idea what was actually offensive. |

I heard about it. Personally I could understand how it would be offensive. I mean it is their religion. It is overreacting, but then that would be just small extremist groups being fucktards (gosh I love that word). I'm sure christians would get offended if there was a cartoon of jesus shooting a bunch of jews. It is enforcing a stereotype and inciting racism. Just like not all christians are nazis, not all muslims are terrorists. |

Glim I heard about the cartoon ages ago and thought, here we go again another "Satanic Verses" the whole price on Salman Rushdie's head and all the controversy that ensued over a bloody book.. As I remember it took over a decade to get the price removed from his head.. What should have been a harmless chuckle about a cartoon has blown out into a another controversy over nothing.. It's like wars that two dickheads start over a phone about some shit or another and send a million or two of thier best and brightest to kill each other for the next 5-10 years and by the time they're done they can't remember why they started it except if they read it in a history book.. When if there had been a brain in anyones head they would just shoot the two pricks and say to hell with it let's go get a curry.. It makes no fucking sense at all.. |
