Well i'll fill this shit out cos i'm that bored... Gender Male Age 26-40 (but only just) 1. What is your ethnicity? Caucasian 2. What area are you from? E.g. City/town/village etc UK 3. What class do you associate yourself with? Class? Um... working or middle class i guess. 4. What music do you listen to? Duh. Goth, metal, industrial, classical, 80's pop, electronica, movie soundtracks. 5. What are your hobbies/interests? Music, reading, internet, anime, science fiction, roleplaying, MMORPGs 6. For how long have you been on the Goth scene and what attracts you to this social group? Since i was old enough to dictate what clothes i wear and how my hair is cut. I.e. since about 12-13. What attracts me? Um... good clothes, good music, pretty girls, the fact that is doesn't conform to modern society's 'norms'. Don't get me wrong, i'm not an attention seeker - i just like to be different enough that you don't categorise me with the masses. 7. How do you think others perceive you and do you think the gothic subculture makes you stand out? I think that what you think gothic subculture is, ain't gothic subculture. I think that you think gothic subculture is those annoying low-class scumbags dressed up in a horrid mish-mash of skate/goth/rock wear, who draw interesting patterns up one side of thier face with eyeliner. That ain't gothic subculture - it's just sloppy dressing. Most of them are loud, crude, obnoxious attention-seeking show-offs who hate the loving parents who buy them everything they want. I think real gothic subculture is as small and un-noticed as it has always been. I think most people would perceive me as a normal person who wears a lot of black and maybe a little too much eyeliner for a guy. I don't think gothic subculture makes me stand out. We're eclipsed by the try-too-hard kids who have yet to discover the catechism: 'less is more'. Frankly, i'm perfectly happy to be quietly ignored. Just don't try to classify me with everyone else. 8. How would you define a Goth? HA! I have neither the time nor motivation. No milk has arrived at work yet and since i don't drink black coffee, i haven't had a drink yet so i'm very tetchy atm. Goth? Wear black, use make-up to good effect, smile at your friends, scowl at everyone else, listen to great music, dance *properly*, turn down smack for the 3rd time that evening then go home and realise it's 6.30am... then go to bed. 9. Has your image ever prevented you from doing anything? If yes how did this make you feel? Not prevented me from doing anything. It's got me a good kicking a few times. And how do you think it makes me feel? People hate what's different. I guess i'm just different enough to deserve to be taught the error of my ways on the end of someone's foot. 10. Do you ever change your appearance/dress to suit different situations? Hell yes. I wear a collar and tie for work don't i? I wear urban camouflage like other people. 11. What do you think of other subcultures and do you have non-Goth friends? No unity, shitty music, too much fighting, bad beer and bad fashion. Yes i have non-goth freinds, i'm not an elitest. Most of my friends that aren't goths i'd classify as nerds or moshers/skaters. And when i say skaters i mean they ride skateboards, not listen to Avril Lavigne and hang around at the mall. 12. Do you follow a religion? Yes. No. Maybe. No, my family are all christians, but my mum and dad were open minded enough to allow me to find my own way. My dad's sense of belief is still pretty strong but very low-key (which i respect a lot) and if there IS a heaven, i know my mum is there right now. I guess i'm agnostic. I am a scientist after all. Show me empyrical evidence and i'll believe. Until then i'll go my own way. Hey, if the apocalypse comes then i'll inherit the earth along with the rest of the meek. Ha ha ha. 13. Do you think the media portrays a stereotypical view of Goths? Uh... yeah based entirely around coffin-boppers and baby-bats. Media understanding of pretty much anything is skewed by those who write the article anyway, so there's no such thing as fair, impartial portrayal of anything really. Ho hum. Well that's my 10 cents but only because i'm bored. Hopefully it'll defibrilate the rest of the board back to life and people will start posting again. |
