I have been in Toowoomba for a few months and have found PLAY to be a fairly good club to go to. I used to party in 'the valley' before moving here so it's been the only place where I can here some decent beats. About 6 weeks ago I was there for the first birthday and had a great time ( from what I can remember ). I got a cd from one of the djs who played ( Bam Bam ) and it wasn't too bad. Last weekend I was there at PLAY and the music was fairly funky but I swear I heard one of the resident djs playing the same cd or atleast parts of it. I wouldn't have picked up on it except that I have the same cd. Is this common practice with local talent because I know 'brissi djs' are extremely territorial when it comes to their own music styles. Or am I just trippin? Also, do any bush doofs or trance partys happen around this area? |

Thanks once again Ray. Always kind words from you guys. However WHAT THE FUCK??? If What Dustbuster says is true then I am pissed off. You know that this is not the first confrontation I've had on this matter and I've even had T'ba ravers ask me why I play JJ's music. Once again, WHAT THE FUCK!!! I can assure everyone that I do NOT rip off other djs mixes. In actual fact, I pride myself on being quite a bit different to other local djs. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying i'm a better dj than the next but I do have a different style and if others are trying to claim my sound as theirs, then they are showing to you their lack of creativity as a dj. Djs often have the same tracks as the next guy but what pitch you play them at and how you work the mixer is what defines your style and makes you different from the rest. Maybe I am over reacting. I'd like to hear from some experienced djs on the matter. If you're out there Custa, What do you think? Many thanx again for the support of the Pure Tech crue. Peace to all |

Good to hear from you again BamBam..... um on this topic the way I would see it is at the end of the day you can only be true to yourself. I think that finding your own niche that you are happy in is what is important to me, not compromising for anything and not trying to be something a person is not. I don't go out there to play music for masses, the way I look at the whole thing is I never got into this thing to be a "DJ". I got into the djing side of things back when there was an absence of clubs in Toowoomba. The E-Spot had been shut for just over a year and there was nowhere to hear the music I loved. (The first time I heard Hiroshima / Dragnet Action Hero by Baby Doc and the Dentist I nearly wet my pants....that was the track that changed it all for me). Luckily at that stage I had moved in with Paul J where I had access to decks and could form my own personal tastes in music further. Myself and Will-e-d (another friend of mine I lived with in that house) used to buy similar stuff being HH/NRG when Paul was buying HappyHard. I guess there was a bit of competition between Bill and myself over tunes and he used to lock his create so nobody could see his bomb tracks. I guess we were pretty similar in what we played till I found my first Choci's Chewns track and from that point on it has been Acid straight up for me (although dabbling still in HH/NRG, Hard Trance and the precursor to Freeform.... Trancecore as it was known back then). I guess in that respect I am lucky that there aren't too many people out there buying/playing acid... BUT if there were/is somebody playing it I would not mind at all if I could see that person was passionate about it and not just playing it coz it's the next big (not saying Acid is the next big thing, I just don't think enough people understand it) thing if thats what the genre was doing. Who knows acid seems to be ending up in a few big jocks sets of late. i.e. Langford and BK have both played Acid Disco at last couple of parties in Bris, but I could not help myself I had to play Acid Disco aswell on sat night. :-) OK, after all that dribble, sorry guys, all I can say BamBam is that you just do what is right for you, care not about anybody else or what they are doing, just be true to yourself with what and how you play and the people that should matter to you will understand it all and for those that don't does it really matter how they react or how they act?... Nope. We'll have to catch up at some stage mate and shoot the shit. |

Excuse me guys, but back to the doofs question. Who is Dj Royale and where does he play at? Does he ever get a spin at PLAY? And next question. Is Custa likely to spin at PLAY ? |

The answer would be a regrettable NO, but the next question is WHYwhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhywhwy? This town needs to hear something different. I love Play but one club does not make a scene. Sad but true. |

Nah sorry guys, won't be playing at any events under the Play monika. Hopefuly there will be something different happening down the track I will be involved in but we are just needing some time to organise things properly. No point doing something half assed. When the time is right ..... it'll happen. |
