Subject: The ALMA Brazilian New Year's Eve WHITE PARTY!
Date: 2007-12-18 12:05:34

The ultimate goal at ALMA is to share the heart and intense party nature of Brazilians
with their audience, and so far, no event has been more evident of that intention than
their traditional All-White New Year¹s Eve party. With exceptionally talented drummers
and musicians always by their side, one of ALMA's biggest draws is their audience
themselves and the amount energy they bring to these special occasions. And with the
positive all white touch added to the festivities, you won't feel as guilty about your
debaucherous ways the next day.

The tradition started in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where the natives celebrate by dressing
in white and going to the beach to watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve. After midnight,
they jump seven waves and throw flowers in the sea while making a wish. Some people also
light candles in the sand on the beach. This is believed to bring good luck and fortune.
They say that the goddess who protects the sea (YEMANJÁ:Ye + omo + eja) will make their
wishes come true.

We invite you to take part in our tradition, dress all in white and bring in the New Year
in complete revelry with the entire ALMA crew, DJ True, Miller Cruz, Joann Jimenez,
Manchildblack and very special guests Jay Rodriguez and Eliano Braz.

Jay Rodriguez was playing lead alto sax with the late great Tito Puente by the age of
fifteen back in ’81 and has excelled as a musician ever since being nominated twice for
a Grammy under the best jazz solo category. His utterly impressive career found him
sharing the stage with Tania Maria, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Palmieri, Prince,
Mingus Big Band, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Natalie Cole, Ray Barretto, BB King, Erykah
Badu, Roy Hargrove and The Roots amongst literally countless others. Jay is also the
musical director/founding member of Groove Collective. Their 2002 tour of Europe featured
JB trombonist Fred Wesley and P-Funk Co-founder Bernie Worrell.

Combine such talent with Brazilian violinist and party favorite Eliano Braz and we have
the recipe for some serious musicianship. The live music, and Neo-Brasilian Fusion
(Pagode, Samba, House, Drum n'Bass, Mangue Beat, & Classics) will lead into Sullivan
Room's after-party. Pace yourself.
