My apologies if this is an inappropriate forum. 

I am a moving to Miami this summer and need some advice about the neighborhoods there. I
have never even visited so am clueless about where to start looking at this point.  I
know this seems a silly place to ask for advice, but I have been frequenting our local
"rave" messageboards here in Texas for years, and so I thought I might give it a try.  

I am looking to rent a single family home with a fenced yard and central A/C. Is it an
impossibility to find something like that in a decent neighborhood for around $1000
month?  The research I've done so far has convinced me that rent is totally unaffordable.
  I'm willing to live in any type of neigborhood, as long as it's safe and not too far
from downtown, where I'll be working. 

My fiancee will be going to FIU.  Any comments on this university?  I hadn't ever heard
of it before.    

The only decent home rental listings I have found are the miami.backpage and craigslist. 
Any other ideas? 

What neighborhoods should I red flag?  

Where else can I post this that I may get more feedback?
