For Immediate Release –
Run Date – May 10, 2006 to August 31, 2006
(Bellingham, Wash.) Film and video submission are currently being accepted for
NWProjections’ (Northwest Projections) seventh annual film festival Nov. 9-12, 2006, in
Bellingham.
Submissions will be accepted from all areas of Washington state and British Columbia.
Submission categories include:
• Animation
o Any project that has been created with stop action, either photographically or
digitally.
• Experimental
o Any project without a narrative or subject falls in the experimental category. This
category often deals with abstractions, new forms of communication, mixed media
and/or new media.
• Narrative Feature or Narrative Short
o Narrative, simply describes a movie that tells a fictional story (or narrative).
Generally a short is less than 40 minutes or so, and a feature is more than 40 minutes.
• Pure Schlock
o Any piece which does not take itself seriously. The “pure” is a bit deceptive,
not many projects are pure camp but as long as the authors intended the piece to be
tongue-in-cheek it qualifies for Pure Schlock.
• Outdoor Northwest (NEW category!)
o Any film which celebrates the adventurous spirit of life in the outdoors of
Washington State and British Columbia. Films may be of any style or length.
Awards will be given for each category, as well as for Best of NWProjections.
The 2006 film festival will include a new category, Outdoor Northwest. Outdoor Northwest
celebrates films depicting the adventurous spirit of Washington’s great outdoors. Films
in this category include, but are not limited to: snow riding, kayaking, boating,
rock-climbing, etc.
Selected films will be screened downtown in what has become a lively and popular
celebration of local filmmaking efforts.
NWProjections is produced by the Whatcom Film Association, a nonprofit film organization
that operates Bellingham’s only independent theater, the Pickford Cinema.
Submissions will be accepted from now until August 31st. Please go to
www.nwprojections.com for submission guidelines and a downloadable application.
