SUNSHINE STATE - 9:30PM
Thursday, March 8th, the Concord Cafe (937 Bloor St. W)
*please note this is at a different venue than the kings show, but it is only 5 minutes
away!
Sunshine State began as a therapy session between two friends: vocalist Aleza as the
patient, and award winning musician/producer James Bryan providing the therapy with his
acoustic guitar. Sharing the ups and downs of being a single young woman in the city
(Toronto) with her good friend, the duo turned experience into musical inspiration.
Influenced by everything from Bossa nova to New Order and Feist, Sunshine State has an
acoustic sound that’s totally fresh and infectious, writing songs that try to make
sense of modern life and love.
With a brilliant live show that combines Aleza’s magnetic sweet-yet-smoldering persona
with James’ electrifying guitar work, the duo have won loyal fans and strong industry
buzz reaching as far as Japan.. Releasing a three song EP this past summer, Sunshine
State secured a national tour opening up for The Philosopher Kings, and subsequently sold
over 3000 CD’s off the stage alone. Notable local Dj/tastemaker John Kong fell in love
with the crowd favorite “Day Job” which led to the international release of several
remixes on John’s Do Right label in January 2007. This 12 inch release which included
remixes from Toronto producer & DJ’s Alistair Johnson & Circle Research managed to sell
out immediately in Japan & Canada and helped Sunshine State create substantial industry
interest in the UK.
Aleza and James just completed recording material for Sunshine State’s full length
debut, slated for release in the spring. They will be showcasing Thursday, March 8th @
The Concord Café (937 Bloor St. W) during Canadian Music Week before heading over to the
UK for their first International showcase on Thursday, April 19th @ The Electro-Acoustic
Club in London England.

THE PHILOSOPHER KINGS 12:30PM
In the post grunge era, The Philosopher Kings were a breath of fresh air, a band whose
heart revolved around the essence of groove, with smooth pop-hybrid melodies, and sensual
vocals. They dominated the radio waves with such chart-topping singles as “Charms,”
“Hurts to Love You” and “If I Ever Lose This Heaven” and criss-crossed the
country captivating sold-out audiences. They toured from Brazil to Japan, winning every
fan, one at a time.
Each member of The Philosopher Kings grew into a successful and diversified artist in
their own right; Gerald Eaton released a solo project as Jarvis Church and with Brian
West, formed the production team Track and Field. Together they produced Grammy
Award-winner Nelly Furtado’s albums. James Bryan displayed his masterful guitar riffs
on his solo debut "Beautiful World" and with Jay Levine, formed the multi- platinum
animated duo Prozzak and launched his own record label and management company UMI
Entertainment. Jon Levine has also pursued a solo career with his signature lyrical and
piano stylings and Denton Whited has continued to tour with several artists. Collectively
The Philosopher Kings have penned over 100 songs for superstar artists such as: Tina
Turner, Ricky Martin, Fefe Dobson, Divine Brown and Amanda Stott.
The year 2006 marked the release of their 3rd studio album “Castles”. It also marked
the long anticipated return of The Philosopher Kings to the live arena, once again
selling out shows across Canada, spawning several top ten hits on radio and connecting
with fans old and new. The Philosopher Kings will be supporting a good cause on
Thursday, March 8th by playing the Amnesty International Showcase during CMW, Headlining
a stellar line-up of great Canadian talent.
