Has many long time fan of the Pacific National Exhibition knows,
the Demolition Derby has been a tradition at the fair at least
1965.
My family and I will never forget the roll-over competitions, the
figure-eight races, mini stock races, the Fox helping us sign the YMCA
song and of course the Demo Derbies! It was always fun to watch cars get really smashed
up keep going in spite
flat tires and blown radiators. The last car still moving and making
contact in 90 seconds would be the winner. Most often it was the most
badly beaten up car that would win! The seats in the stands were always
packed with people. The shows also brought in lots of sales for the ice
cream vendors that walked up and down the stands.
I'd like to encourage demolition derby fans to write to the PNE and ask
they bring back the traditional Demolition Derby!
