Antique Gypsy Roadshow
The Woohoo Revue and Mr Fibby at The Merry Muse Fri 31 July.
Do not bring your valuable heirlooms for appraisal by experts in tweed jackets! Instead, the Antique Gypsy Roadshow is a chance to see the most exciting gypsy band in the country, The Woohoo Revue (Melbourne), as they stage another blazing Canberra show at the Merry Muse with musical comrades Mr Fibby on Friday 31 July.
People lucky enough to have seen The Woohoo Revue during their previous visits to Canberra will know that this will be an incredible night. Expect a big, brassy and very sweaty show from them and a theatrical performance from Mr Fibby that combines Eastern melodies with preposterous stories.
The Woohoo Revue perform music for celebration- for dancing, drinking, and forgetting about tomorrow. Every song expresses a strong sense of occasion that transports the listener to a rampaging after-party at a circus sideshow. Their wild tunes are delivered with virtuosic musicianship, bravado and a big sound that hits the dance floor like a herd of thundering elephants.
This is not a band for the faint hearted. Hearing their music, you would think it must take someone with the fitness of an Olympic athlete to keep dancing through two sets of the Woohoo Revue’s music; it is that fast and furious. Amazingly people do, which is a testament to the restorative qualities of booze, adrenaline and banging tunes.
Since their last visit to Canberra, the band has been very busy touring their debut album, Dear Animals throughout NSW, QLD, VIC, TAS and SA.
Dear Animals has been received strongly and has attracted airplay on Triple J, ABC radio and community radio stations across the country. It is an uncompromising, intense gypsy dance album that presents some iconic and powerful versions of traditional tunes.
The Woohoo Revue has also quickly become a frontrunner in the vibrant Melbourne gypsy music scene and has fast established itself on the festival circuit by getting the big crowds dancing at The St Kilda Festival, The Brunswick Music Festival, The Snowy Mountains of Music, Folk Rhythm and Life, Rainbow Serpent Festival and High Vibes.
