“Phantasticus”

Saturday, March 6, 2010, 8:00pm

Center For The Arts, 2225 Colorado Blvd. , Eagle Rock

Program: Music of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, Gesualdo, and a selection of early 17th century Venetian composers.
James Newton's Prayers and Tears for the Broken for brass ensemble

Description: A program from the birth of the baroque: music of unparalleled fantasy and imagination, emotion and expressive complexity.

Featuring both vocal and instrumental music, this program is performed by a mixed ensemble of vocalists and brass, wind and string players with music by Giovanni Gabrieli, Gesualdo, a selection of early 17th century Venetian composers, and is put into perspective with two recent compositions related to this older style: James Newton's Prayers and Tears for the Broken for brass ensemble and Mark Menzies' arrangement of the passion chorale.

Mark Menzies conducts and leads from the violin and viola a large ensemble of soloists both instrumental and vocal; Maurita (Bunny) Phillips-Thornburgh is a featured soprano soloist.

Ticket Pricing: $19 (adult), $12 (youth 17 and under)
