AWARD WINNING ELECTRO/ROCK BAND HEADLINES A SUPER MASSIVE AUSTRALIA DAY LINE-UP AT THE STEP INN

Sydney band Super Massive bring their unique and award-winning blend of rock and dance music to Brisbane over the Australia Day long weekend, as part of their first Queensland tour.

Super Massive will play at the Step Inn, 186 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley on Australia Day, Saturday 26th January. Doors open 8pm and entry is $12.

The night will be chock full of electro-rock goodness, with local electro-pop-rock band Elation lending their their dirty grooves, big beats and sassy vocals in support, and the Dance In Circles DJs, Gay Dan & Ninja Rock there right through til 1:30am to guarantee the sexiest sounds for your ears and feet.

Super Massive were awarded the Best Alternative Artist Award at the 2007 MusicOz Awards in November, for their evocative and as-yet-unreleased synth/rock song âÂÂFistsâÂÂ, which you can sneak preview on the bandâÂÂs myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/supermassivesounds.

The band is the songwriting co-project of drummer/composer Glenn Abbott (formerly of ARIA winning band Machine Gun Fellatio & his own solo project The Bryan Ferrysexual Experience) and singer/writer Malina Hamilton-Smith.

Creative and ultra-funky, Super Massive deliver a thrilling and unique 50/50 blend of electro and rock, meshing multi-layered synthscapes with the visceral impact of a full rock band, for a huge and highly original sound. Says Hamilton-Smith, "It's an entertaining and energetic show that people can either sit back and watch, or get up and dance to. There's a lot of variety in the songs and sounds to keep it interesting for the audience, and we drive it to the highest intensity we can, to make it a really thrilling, exhilarating ride. "

Super Massive has been steadily building a following at live shows in Sydney over the past year or so, performing to full houses at venues including Home Nightclub, Will & TobyâÂÂs Supper Club and Glebe Street Fair as well as at the Beach Hotel, Byron Bay.

This is Super Massive's first show in Brisbane, and is the band's penultimate port of call on a northern tour that includes Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay and Surfers Paradise.

SUPER MASSIVE - BIOGRAPHY

Super Massive is a creative new electro/rock/pop band from Sydney: A female-fronted four piece with a unique sound and a powerful, entertaining and musically accomplished show.

The band was recently awarded âÂÂBest Alternative Artistâ at the 2007 MusicOz Awards, for their evocative synth/rock song "FistsâÂÂ, and made the Nov 13 cover of Drum Media Magazine. They were also nominated for the "Tony Mott Photography Award" for their distinctive band shot.

Super Massive is the creative partnership of singer/writer Malina Hamilton-Smith and drummer/composer Glenn Abbott, best known for his work with popular Australian band Machine Gun Fellatio. Teaming up in 2005, the two found they shared an interest in finding a true 50/50 blend of dance and rock âÂÂ" perfectly meshing multi-layered synthscapes with the visceral impact of a full rock band.

The duo spent a year musically exploring and writing before being joined by electric bass genius John D. Young (Marcia Hines, Chuck Berry, Vanda & Young), and talented young guitarist Marc Malouf began playing with them in 2007.

Inspired in equal measures by funk, pop song structures, rock, french electro, tribal rhythms and the theatrics of glam rock, Super Massive's sound is like a spectacular mirrorball that reflects many tiny pieces of influence, from Burt Bacharach to Alice Cooper to Bessie Smith and Goldfrapp via Tower Of Power, AC/DC and Basement Jaxx, yet with a sound entirely its own. ItâÂÂs as fresh as a snowflake and black as your soul.

Sydney based, Super Massive has played over a dozen headline and support shows at SydneyâÂÂs premier venues such as Will & TobyâÂÂs Taylor Square, CandyâÂÂs Apartment, Home Nightclub, Spectrum, The Hopetoun Hotel, Sonar Sydney, @Newtown, Lansdowne and The Annandale as well as shows at the Beach Hotel, Byron Bay. Recent shows include Glebe Street Fair and Marrickville Road Festival, where the band played alongside Unkle Ho, Dardanelles and Deborah Conway.

Previous Events: Friday 25th January, Beach Hotel Byron Bay
