| The grand finale, The Australian finals of the 2008 DMC World DJ Championship, was held this Saturday 6th September at Melbourne's Hi Fi Bar. Proudly presented by TDK Life On Record, DMC Australia and supported by Dub Clothing and Ortofon, champion DJs from six states flew in to take on reigning 2-time Australian champion DJ Perplex.
After a massive build up, the stage was set for a high level of competition and the DJ talent on display didn't disappoint.
Victoria's B.Two took out 3rd place with 12 points winning a $500 voucher from TDK Life On Record, a copy of Ableton Live software, Torq slipmats, DMC DVDs, Serato vinyl, and DUB clothing.
Western Australian DJ Zeke took out 2nd Place, WA's highest ever finish, with 15 points winning a $700 voucher from TDK Life On Record, a copy of Serato Scratch Live, a copy of Reason production software, DMC DVDs and clothing from Ortofon and DUB.
In the end though, experience and superior skills won out as two times Australian champion DJ Perplex stepped up and took out the championships in a blaze of glory to secure his third win in a row. With 22 points, Perplex wins flights and accommodation in London for the world finals, $1000 TDK voucher, a pair of M-Audio studio monitors, a Torq X-ponent DJ console and a DUB clothing pack.
As well as the DJ battle there was live Hip Hop shows. Sherlok (aka The Black Pearl) previewing tracks from his new album, DJ Flagrant with an all-star cast of homegrown talent including; Pez, 360, Mantra, Diafrix, Phrase, Candice Monique and Autism as well as J-Red and his mind-blowing DVJ show.
"We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality production, so we are very disappointed that technical issues arose during DJ Perplex and B.Two's sets on Saturday night. DMC rules state that entrants have the right to halt their performance if they feel there is a technical issue that is no fault of their own. Neither of the two DJs stopped, so the judges scored their performances based on the technical skill and originality delivered. We held a meeting with the judges immediately after all of the DJ's had competed and all of the judges assured us that the sound issues didn't in any way effect their scoring.
