Have you heard about roller derby? Did you know that you can learn how to play here in Brisbane? Well, the Sun State Roller Girls and their fabulous coaches will teach you how to play roller derby.
All Girl Roller Derby is a full contact, quad roller skate sport for women aged 18 years and over. It is played on an oval shaped rink where one player on each side tries to lap the opposing team to score points - and it's up to the others to stop her.
So, Ya Wanna be a Derby Queen? Perfecting your derby attitude is your first step but chances are, if you've come across a Sun State Roller Girl than you already have a hefty dose of the right stuff. Sun State Roller Girls aim to develop a group of women who are committed and passionate about the sport of flat track roller derby. We are a non-profit Association, run by the skaters, for the skaters and are dedicated to promoting both sport and spectacle. Safety, athleticism and teamwork are highly regarded values for our league as we structure a fun, empowering and enduring experience for the women of Brisbane.
How do you get Started? Come along to our free information session on Saturday 20 September and learn what it takes to be a Sun State Roller Girl. Be there at 10:30 am at the Garden City Library. If you can't make it then we run learn to skate sessions at Digi Skate in Browns Plains every Sunday night at 7pm the cost is $10 for skating. If you are ready to work hard to be the best that you can be, both on the track and off, get along to a beginner training session at your local rink, build up your skating skills and then join us at Digi Skate on Sunday nights from 7pm-9pm.
