Having co-written with the likes of songwriter Adam Powers (Kylie Minogue, Infernal, DJ Aligator), and worked with Destiny's Child, Massive Attack, Queen Latifah and A Tribe Called Quest, international artist Karen Mukupa has proven herself to have a flare for writing catchy pop tunes with substance. Set for the release of her album 'Dreamer' through Brumby Music in July, Karen is once again proving that she has what is takes to turn her dreams into reality
Born in Lusaka, Zambia, Karen spent much of her young years living in a royal tribe in Tanzania. Knowing she wanted to become a professional musician at an early age, at 15 she made the bold move of relocating to Denmark on her own, so she could have a good school education.
It was at this time she met her now diseased friend and music partner of many years, queen of reggae and dancehall, Natasja. With a shared commitment to a life in music, in 2007 when Natasja died in a car crash in Jamaica, Karen's whole world was blown apart. Karen, who was also in the car, but luckily survived the crash with some minor injuries, used the terrible loss as an inspiration to work harder and achieve even more success in her friends honour.
For her 3rd studio album 'Dreamer', Karen celebrates life after a great loss. Combining reggae, afro, latin and a hint of hip hop, the album has a unique sound that is energetic and uplifting from start to finish. Having written 9 out of the 11 songs for the release, Karen also teamed up with world famous Danish reggae producer Pharfar, as well as other Danish Producer Tom J for a a few songs, then DJ Kenneth Bager and Cope label boss Peter Kehl in the final stages to round it off.

The oh-so-catchy 'Let it play' is singing in the shower material at its best. With a hook that you will be humming for hours 'Let It Play' could quite easily have come straight from a Kylie Minogue record, proving that Karen can rub shoulders with the best pop diva's out there.
'I'm Not Your Papa' is collaboration between Karen & latin/funk legend Kid Creole and is hip swivelling funk at its best.
Aside from her music projects Karen has also written two children's books (which can be found in every child room in Denmark), is a columnist and also hosts a TV show called 'Mukupa's Kitchen. As well as this she contributes her time to aid organisations including Red Cross, The AIDS fond and Amnesty International. In 2008 she became the official ambassador for Care and the 'Made in Africa' clothing line. Then at the end of it all she also tries to find time for her husband, "the Danish Jamie Oliver" - TV chef Nikolaj Kirk.
