| From in the producers chair and behind the decks, Lee Coombs has been whipping dance floors into a frenzy for more than 20 years.
Although widely regarded for playing a key role in the development of the breaks movement, Coombs musical endeavours have and always will be far more diverse. Choosing to play a mixed bag of sounds including house, electro, techno, tech-breaks, breaks and acid, Coombs always has his hands on the latest tunes and remixes going around; often handed to him from his producer mates, just hours before he takes to the stage.
British born and now US resident, Coombs has since his early days in music, been at the forefront of it all; releasing groundbreaking mix CDs, remixing the world's most acclaimed artists and knocking out dance floor destroying productions that are considered classics years after their release. With tracks appearing on more than 70 compilations across the globe and list of remix credits as long as your arm, his inclusion is well sought after by the music industry and fans alike.
In fact, over the past couple of months, he has remixed Justin Johnson and 3PO, Trent Cantrelle vs Princess Superstar, Meat Katie & Dylan Rhymes and BJX.
In 2009, his 'light & dark' album received a mass of attention from music fans and media alike, with four of the tracks climbing high on the Beatport charts.
what they said about Light & Dark:
"truly classic album" AOTW - Inpress
"lee returns with vengeance" - Onion
"a masterwork" - 3d world
"flawless grooves and spectacular hooks" AOTW - Time Off
"dance floor destroying tunes not to be missed" - Inthemix
"sophisticated" - the drum media, Perth
Wanting to cast new light on moments from 'light & dark', Coombs has remixing each of the tracks from the album to unleash yet another sonic monster with the album 'Light and Dark Remixed', set for release on Lot49 later this month.
Meat Katie, Dopamine, Zodiac Cartel, Maelstrom, Atomic Drop, Neurodriver, Trent Cantrelle and Lee himself have all lent their varied and abundant musical taken to each remix, and have created a record that has all the purity of the original songs with the aggressive punch in the face that only this team of rogues could deliver.
The remixes on the album are dance floor destroyers, there's no doubt about that. With the big nasty wobble of basslines that take no prisoners, to the crack and boom of pristine analog drums, you'd be hard pressed to try and sit even one track out.
Listen for that BIG Tech-Funk sound pummelling the bassbins in clubs, massives and raves across the globe, and then imagine that you are at one of those clubs, massives or raves totally absorbed in the music and unable to stop moving, dancing and smiling. Only then, will you have a glimpse of how big the tracks are on this album are!! The true sound of the underground with a 2010 one up.
