Feb 24, 2012: SubDub London at Cable: The mighty rumble of SubDub has been a pillar of UK sound system culture for 14 years and is one of the best reasons to visit the great city of Leeds. But you can save yourself the train fare this month because they're coming to mashup your backyard with a takeover of all three rooms of Cable. Room one is the Dub and Roots room and is hosted by the foundation of SubDub - The Iration Steppas Sound System. As ever they'll be playing 'dubz inna year 3000 style'. Joining them is the heavyweight sound of The Disciples - a group originally founded in '86 and given their name by the legendary Jah Shaka. Add Dougie Wardrop's Conscious Sounds, and longtime SubDub and Exodus regular - Earthpipe - and you know it's going to be serious. Room two has the Jamaica Party Tour stopping in to fast forward through the evolution of dub culture taking in dancehall, bashment, dub step, and jungle on the way. Native Tongues sort-of reunited (not really); A Tribe Called Quest are subject of Harlem Stage series; Smif-N-Wessun, Buckshot &: by BBG The Jungle Brothers at SOB's last night via MuphoricSounds As expected, The Jungle Brothers DID bring out members of the Native Tongues (and others) last night at SOB's (2/7), but that did not include many of the "invited guests". The reunion and associated guest appearances were limited to Leaders of The New School (Charlie Brown & Dinco D, but sans the crucial Busta Rhymes), Jarobi (of a Tribe Called Quest), members of the UMC's and Black Sheep, Sadat X, Force MDs and possibly some others. Bum out, but it was sort of expected. No word on whether members of A Tribe Called Quest will be in attendance at Harlem Stage in March either, but they will be the subject of a three day event:On the heels of a major Producers Guild Award for the documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest -Harlem Stage, in conjunction with Revive Music, will celebrate the impact, importance and influence of the pioneering crew with A Tribe Called Quest: Innovation and Legacies - A Movement

The band's debut was my #2 Album of 2011:"Found Love in a Graveyard" made my Favorite Tracks of 2009 list and have been waiting a full-length ever since. The band does not disappoint. There's not a dud in Veronica Falls' 36 minute running time. New songs are equals to early singles which appear here in newly recorded versions that might actually improve on the originals. MOR KARBASI Mor Karbasi burst onto the global world music scene in 2008 with the release of her first album, The Beauty and the Sea and has continued to capture audiences internationally with her gorgeous, exceptional voice and looks to match. She was born April 23, 1986 in Jerusalem, to a mother from Nazareth of Moroccan descent and a father from Jerusalem of Persian ancestry. Mor is a young woman whose music is influenced by several cultures, though mainly by her Jewish heritage. All her influences come together in her predominately Sephardic repertoire: from traditional Jewish songs, to her own contemporary compositions. The traditional songs originate from ancient Spain and have traveled all around the world with the Jews who were forced to leave Spain in the 15th Century.
