One of Australia's finest voices returns to the Foundry 616 debut with her stellar
Chiasmus: Joce Moen & Chris CodyJoce Moen and Chris Cody reconnect as a duo for Sydney audiences at Foundry 616 on October 25th. Having worked together in France and recorded Moens first album La Rouge Qui Bouge together at Studio Piccolo, Paris, they now meet again after Codys recent return to Sydney. Both composers and performers in their own right, the intersection of these two forms an exciting cross-over or chiasmus. The duo will perform songs from La Rouge Qui Bouge and also from Joce Moens new album Spirit Level/ Niveau Bulle, an eclectic solo album that celebrates love, travel and motherhood. Joce MoenA troubadour beloved of audiences in Sydney, Berlin, Paris, and Montreal, Joce Moen sings in both French and English. Her songs are hand-crafted stories of chance poetic encounters (sometimes with people, sometimes with garbage trucks), the wonder and sorrow of travelling, and the discovery of love and happiness. Joces music defies categorization but draws from jazz, folk and blues traditions. Joce l

Pional
The rise of Pional (a.k.a. Miguel Barros) has been a gradual one over the past few years, but 2014 feels like the year in which the Madrid producer has properly stepped into the spotlight. He's long been associated with John Talabot and his Hivern Discs label, and though Barros has been issuing solo work since 2010, including efforts for both Hivern and Permanent Vacation, he was for a long time best known as the "other guy" in Talabot's live show and the man behind the poppy vocal hook on "Destiny." That began to change in late 2013, when Barros signed on with Young Turks to issue the Invisible/Amenaza EP. Combined with an increased presence on the DJ circuit as a solo artist, the record garnered Pional plenty of new attention, and his latest effort, an official release of the hotly tipped "It's All Over" (one of the star tracks from Talabot's stellar DJ-Kicks mix album), is arguably even bigger. As such, we felt the time was right to ask Barros to put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series.

Basement Jaxx
Quiet isn't a word that many people would use to describe Basement Jaxx, but in recent years, the lively UK duo of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe has maintained a relatively low profile. Still, even though the outfit responsible for international smash hits like "Where's Your Head At?" and "Red Alert" may have stepped out of the spotlight a bit, the pair hasn't exactly mellowed with age. This week, Basement Jaxx is releasing its seventh studio album, Junto; as expected, it's a madcap, genre-hopping effort that finds Buxton and Ratcliffe delivering another batch of shuffling house rhythms, soulful vocal turns, and oddball pop experiments. That being said, as inventive as Basement Jaxx's productions have been over the years, the duo first made its name in the DJ booth. (Basement Jaxx was actually the name of the pair's mid-'90s club night; it was followed by another party called Rooty, whose name was later used as the title of the group's second LP.) Curious to see if the boys' DJ chops were intact, we invite

Call Super
In some ways, the story of Call Super (a.k.a. Joe Seaton) isn't particularly unique. Raised in the UK and now based in Berlin, he admitted in our Bubblin' Up profile last year that his background doesn't really set him apart from many of his peers. However, when one listens to his output, especially the records Seaton has offered up since he settled in with the Houndstooth camp, it's clear that Call Super isn't the average techno producer. Calling his music difficult would be a stretch, but it's undoubtedly challenging, even when it's focused on the dancefloor. His latest 12", "Depicta" b/w "Acephale II," which dropped just yesterday, was delivered with remarkably little fanfare and even less explanation, yet it's full of robust, propulsive rhythms. At the same time, its tunes are marked by ominous atmospherics, ghostly melodies, and crunchy percussive elements; essentially, the tracks exemplify how the Call Super sound is nuanced, complex, and designed to reward those listeners who are willing to sit back an

Mu-Ziq
At this point, simply referring to Mike Paradinas as an influential figure feels like a severe understatement. For the past two decades, the man has worked tirelessly to push electronic music forward, both as an artist"recording primarily as Mu-Ziq, amongst a litany of other monikers"and as the head of the groundbreaking Planet Mu imprint, which has become one of the leading outposts for experimental and left-of-center electronic sounds. Incredibly prolific and never beholden to any particular style, Paradinas has amassed quite the body of work over the years, and is adding a new EP, Rediffusion, to his discography this week. To mark the occasion, we asked the veteran producer to put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series, without knowing exactly what he might deliver. read more

Philly 360 Playlist: West Philadelphia's Own Beano Drops New Single "Let It Go"
If you're like us, then you've been waiting for solo music from West Philadelphia singer/songwriter Beano. Although he's rocked many stages, on his own and alongside acts like Chill Moody, we have yet to see a solo project from the Philadelphia crooner. Well, it looks like the wait is over! Because this week the Philly 360 playlist is back with Beano's first single, Let it Go. For this mid-tempo danceable, smooth track, Beano sings that his phone is off and he's heading out for a night with the boys after a bit of trouble at home. Reminiscent of the vibe of Ushers You Dont Have to Call, the song has a great feel and will have fans singing along instantly. The track was done by Philly-based producer Dilemma, and samples LL Cool Js Mama Said Knock You Out " which actually samples a number of older records including a James Brown hit. The break beat gives Let it Go a throwback sound with a new school twist. Beano has been working quietly on his upcoming solo project after the debut of Who Do You

Only two months have passed since we profiled Lee Bannon as part of this year's Bubblin' Up Week. Normally, we'd allow a little more time to pass before tabbing a Bubblin' Up artist for the XLR8R podcast series"if nothing else, for the sake of continued artist development"but in Bannon's case, it quickly became clear that the Brooklyn producer wasn't going to be waiting for anything. His debut LP for Ninja Tune, Alternate/Endings, dropped in January, turning heads with its blown-out aesthetic and frequent nods to drum & bass, yet Bannon has announced that he's already working on a follow-up. Given his prodigious work rate, we figured that Bannon might also be willing to take on our podcast series, and he not only delivered an exclusive DJ mix, but one that's stuffed with several of his unreleased tracks. read more

Rachel sings about kind words, acceptance, the infinite value of the present moment, and inextinguishable hope. Its captivating from the very first listen and showcases Rachels poetic lyrical talent. How to build the future out of your most eccentric ideas
