For some musicians funk is where its at: It starts and ends with the groove!Funk Engine is one such band.The newly minted Sydney four piece is dedicated to groove-based music, jazz fusion and reggae.The band members all grew up in Sydney except Felix Lalanne who is originally from Byron Bay.They first met through the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Jazz Workshop. Regarded as one of Australia's outstanding jazz musicians, saxophonist and band leader Dale Barlow was one of the first artists to play when Foundry616 launched last year - and the club is delighted to have this heavyweight player back with this outstanding band exactly one year on to celebrate a fantastic first year of live music for Sydney audiences.A tenor saxophonist who also is a skilled multi-instrumentalist who plays the flute exceptionally well, Dale Barlow is one of Australia's few jazz artists with a real international profile, mainly stemming from his stint with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the 1980s (resulting in several albums, most featuring some of Barlows compositions) and recordings with American artists including the Cedar Walton Trio and Billy Cobham.
