| With the return of N'Dea Davenport I thought I would check in with the Brand New Heavies one more time. The only other album that I have heard from The Brand New Heavies is the impressive Brother Sister, N'dea's last album with the band, that is until now. Both N'Dea and the band suffered from less than desirable sales so they decided to join forces again and Get Used To It is easily either parties best output to date. It has that neo-soul feel that hasn't been present in music for quite some time. The group just seems re-inspired having Davenport's amazingly strong vocals in the front. She sounds better than ever on every track on here. Some stand-outs include "We Won't Stop" and the opening "We've Got". I like the darker feel of "Music" as well. It's a bit of a different direction, still very soulful. The thing with Get Used To it is that the music hasn't changed all that much, the band is tighter and the songs are stronger. It seems that everyone has matured and gotten comfortable with the fact that this is a strong group. Forget what you've heard, Get Used To It is the best Brand New Heavies album to date. Still not quite perfect but it's a good trip down a modern soul path. (Delicious Vinyl 2006) Reviewed on 2006-12-10 10:02:46 by Dennis Scanland |
