| Here's what's happening this Saturday:
* DJs Phae, Panic, and our newest resident, JavieR! * Vending by Zizuph * March Drink Deals (besides our 2 for 1 before 10): From 10:00 until last call throughout March, we'll be offering the following options for $3.50 each: Heinekens, Midori sours, and apple martinis * Tons of giveaways! * Our college discount continues!
What's the old saying? March comes in like a lion, but goes out like a lamb? Well the first part's certainly true about Midnight's March 1 party. We're announcing new drink deals and another rotational resident DJ, Zizuph is vending, and Bound's DJ Panic--well-known for his kick-ass sets--is on board as well. Read on for the full story...
OUR DJS--INCLUDING ANOTHER NEW RESIDENT
Phae, our head DJ, had to cancel at the last minute on the 23rd due to illness (many thanks to Ascension's DJ Fractured for filling in!). But she'll be back again this week, along with DJs JavieR and Panic.
There just weren't enough Saturdays in February to give all five of our new rotational resident DJs an evening of their own in the spotlight. So the fifth, JavieR, assumes that title this weekend. Like the other four (Cheetahdave, Gleek, Valdyr, and Vlad), he'll be behind the decks at The Meeting Place every four to six weeks from now on for your dancing pleasure.
JavieR kicked off his DJ career on college radio in the mid-1990s, but soon moved over to the club scene as well, promoting and spinning for a number of events in the Boston area. When he moved to D.C. in 2005, Midnight hosted one of his first local gigs. In addition to past guest spots for us, he's won accolades for his appearances at Ascension, Bound, etc. Probably the only local scene DJ who's ever guested in Puerto Rico, JavieR has an excellent feel for the music, whether it's old school hits or newer ones. For more info on him, check out his site (http://www.geocities.com/cinis99/djinfo).
Our guest DJ, Panic, probably needs little introduction to most of you. A D.C. gothic/industrial scene veteran, he's managed to spin at and/or promote virtually every serious local event for years; and he's worked hard to present new and rising live acts to D.C. audiences. Panic has also guested at clubs in Massachusetts, upstate N.Y., central Virginia, etc. Founder of the local chapter of GHU (Goth Help Us, a charitable organization), he's currently the chief resident at Bound (dc.bound.org), which recently relocated to Felix in Adams Morgan.
This request-friendly trio will keep you out on the dance floor right up until we reluctantly kill the music around 2:45 a.m.
ZIZUPH IS VENDING
Over in the vendor corner you'll find Zizuph, which specializes in hand-crafted seasonal gifts like soaps, scents, salts, oils, and some very fine jewelry pieces. Its proprietor, Meredith, offers not only high quality but very reasonably-priced merchandise. Some of her fragrances are so popular that we get e-mail from people asking us how they can contact her for more. You can check Zizuph out ahead of time at either www.myspace.com/zizuphome or zizuph.blogspot.com
NEW DRINK DEALS!
As of Saturday it's a new month, so The Meeting Place is shifting its drinks specials for us once again. The regular two-for-one deal from 9:00-10:00 remains in effect, of course, as does the $2.00 price for TMP's notorious "black death shooters." From 10:00 until last call throughout March, they'll be offering the following options for $3.50 each: Heinekens, Midori sours, and apple martinis. Since TMP's bartenders generally are far more generous than the ones in other clubs when pouring cocktails, you always get more for your money any time during the evening.
We really do enourage you, of course, to drink responsibly and/or designate a driver.
FREE CAKE, FULL MENU
In these marginal economic times, Midnight proudly supports America's bakers. So look for free cake shortly after the witching hour in honor of the birthdays of Socio Dave and Jonathan. Best wishes, too, to Michele, Catherine, Julia, and Lily, some of whom may decide to join us.
We also leave out a tray of free candy, including a batch of lollipops kindly donated by our friends at Bound (dc.bound.org), at opening on a table near the entrance to the Back Hall. (The latter area is where you'll find our year-round secure bag and coat check.)
If you're hungry and want a real meal, we've got you covered, too, because The Meeting Place always serves its full menu from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Saturdays. It's tasty stuff, and it sure beats the "bar snacks" or microwaved appetizers many other places offer instead.
DON'T MISS THE DRAWING
Many thanks to Christie from Silver Dragon Studio (www.silverdragonstudio.net), who kindly contributed some of her hand- made jewelry pieces to the drawing prize list last Saturday. This week, if you fill out one of the slips on our literature table and drop it into the nearby cauldron before 12:00ish, you could win CDs from Angels on Acid, Rites of Ash, Life in Sodom, Snog, or Iris.
Thanks to LIS (lifeinsodom.com) and ROA (myspace.com/ritesofash) for their contributions. And if you're an Iris fan, keep in mind that they'll be playing with Seabound at Shampoo in Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 12. The $10 cover for that show also admits you to the evening's edition of Nocturne, one of the American gothic scene's best parties (think Alchemy during his best days at Nation).
BEAT THE COVER
At a mere $5.00, and with all the extras we provide you, we think Midnight's already your best deal for the money in the local scene. But if you want to save all or part of that amount, we've always got some options for you:
* Our first twelve guests each week never have to pay an admission fee.
* If you're a college student, professor, or staff member (at any school, local or out of town), show your current campus i.d. at our cash table. Your admission then drops to $3.00.
Okay, think about everything we're offering you this Saturday. Great music, an impressive vendor, free stuff and discounted drinks, etc. Why pay more for less elsewhere? Come on down to Midnight and join the D.C. gothic revolution!
