Encounters: Musical meetings between Australia and China
April 30, 2010 Australia and China: Meeting of Musical Minds From May 6 to 9 the Queensland Conservatorium will host "Encounters: Musical meetings between Australia and China" a festival that will explore the intercultural encounters between the two countries. The four-day festival traces two centuries of interactions through a series of concerts, theatre, photography and film as well as panel discussions, lecture-demonstrations and academic papers. Following the official opening, The Australian Voices (TAV) will premiere A Call to Freedom by Nick Goodridge who composed this winning composition for the Encounters Composition Competition. Gold and Sunshine Coast music lovers will get the chance to experience an internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble on March 26 and 27 when The Australian Voices (TAV) bring to life heroes and history through a series of concerts entitled The Ones with Blood of Stone.

The Ones with Blood of Stone is a celebration of heroes, ancestors and myth. TAV's Artistic Director, Gordon Hamilton, said those with 'blood of stone' are found in national heroes, ancestors, religious figures and mythical characters that live on in stories and music.
