'Lo-fi Musings' was recorded in an old Victorian Terrace in Enmore, Sydney on a Sunday in winter 2009. A room was set up with harp, a loop pedal, delay pedal, mobile phone for samples, a microphone for vocals. Joe Cummins (Lines of Flight) was on trumpet and effects, Casey (Sex in Mexico) on bass loops and effects. There was a mini-disc player to capture the magic they conjured up when playing together. The songs form around ...lines and beats laid down on the harp. The bass plays the role of low end sub frequencies and the trumpet has a floating delayed movement. Heidi Elva & The Black Swans will be launching the new single 'The Saviour' as the sun sets on a Sunday winters eve. Details: In a dark room, a large projection of a floating sea creature in silhouette slowly floats across the wall. There is a stage, it is candlelit and empty but for Heidi Elva and Kris Paulsen and their array of instruments. Heidi layers loops on her harp and using the harp as her drum, she creates minimal beats. The songs are cyclic. Samples are taken from the mobile phone and the laptop, delayed lines weave intricately - ebbing in and out. Then there's Heidi's voice.... a friend once said to her it was like a narcotic.
