The Maltese Café (along with Betty’s) provides an oasis for the poor in an otherwise expensive dining area, so it’s often full of travellers and students alike. It’s a good place to get a feel of what’s on locally, with the walls being adorned with advertising posters for concerts, clubs and theatre productions. Being Maltese the main attraction is the Pastizzis, which are cheaper than chips and very tasty. The most popular types include the Ricotta Cheese and the Chicken & Mushroom pastizzi. The homemade Meat Ravioli also provides a cheap, hearty meal, and is better than most expensive Italian raviolis I’ve tried. And did I mention the coffees? Yes, this place is a favourite.

Pastizzi 40 – 50 cents, Pastas $4 - $5.
