And a strangely affecting and even touching electro-"power ballad" at that. Don't they know that electronic bands are meant to just make the same record and over and over again? Sheeesh. This could really upset the apple cart.
And what's with those new collaborations with those denizens of the dubstep deep Monster Zoku Onsomb? Are they weird but kinda catchy or what? And Thrussell (if it really is Thrussell?) now he sounds a bit like a mutant Berlin cabaret singer from the 1920s over an elastic mashed-up beat. This really is too much.
And then they bring out the remixes, The Calculator's svelte dancefloor killer, Curse Ov Dialect's straight-up insanity and to top it off right near the end of the record there is some guy sounds like he is singing songs around a camp fire to a bunch of Girl Guides.

Indeed, all people learn by imitating others and for artists it is even more important. As the great Salvador Dali once said, "Those who do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing."
The songs she chose to cover, and the way she plays them, with nuance and deep emotion that doesn't come in a can, shows that she has been around for a while. Whether you call it praise music or New Jack gospel, this genre is most often a classic case of "preaching to the choir," with song lyrics lifted artlessly from the King James bible and histrionic music calculated to "reach out and touch somebody's hand." Dear god. Luckily, Charles Laster II and Silvia Pratesi don't make this mistake on their new record Journey of Life. Their songs reference salvation, heaven, and living the Christian life but, like secular soul music, have an uplifting universality. However, since Mac Dre Presents Starters In The Game is not actually an album of his but rather a collection of some collaborations he did in his final years, plus songs from artists who have taken in his shadow or are paying tribute to him. In a sense, this is kind of similar to what has repeatedly been done with 2Pac's music - his vocals taken and placed over a more modernized beat, plus a bunch of tracks slapped on from artists who wish to somehow pay tribute to the man.
