Marlene Dietrich's life and songs perfectly captured in a tribute show by French chanteuse Caroline Nin Caroline Nin "simply sensational a hugely entertaining show"

The Advertiser (Adelaide)

From the 30's to the 50's, Marlene Dietrich was the ultimate symbol of "femme glamour" meets "femme fatale". The extraordinary Caroline Nin uses song, spoken word and video to capture both sides of the Dietrich persona, set against the backdrop of her anti-Nazi campaign during World War II.

Her songs became the soundtrack to a world in turmoil, establishing new standards like Lili Marlene, The Boys In The Backroom and They Call Me Naughty Lola on both sides of the front line.

Nin draws on Dietrich's life and music to paint a warm, three-dimensional portrait of a passionate and witty woman who became both icon and hero.

With his crystal-clear singing voice and vibrant, classically-inspired playing, Jos Gonzlez is one of today's most remarkable artists - testament to the irrefutable power of one man and a guitar. His debut album Veneer captured his magical sound in its purest state, simply beautiful and beautifully simple. He has since toured the UK and US extensively, selling out shows in every major market. While sonically similar to Veneer, Jos's latest release In Our Nature shows Gonzlez' growth as a songwriter. Displaying a heightened emphasis on melody and strong, focused lyrics - the album is a dark combination of softness and anger that is at once mesmerizing, intimate and hauntingly epic.

Hey,

I'm a 21 year old female from the North Eastern suburbs. I don't have any band experience yet but I do have some performance experience with my singing school. I prefer to do vocals though I can do some basic drums and a few chords on the acoustic guitar. I also write lyrics.

Open genre - a result of different players musical preferences and styles combining as one to form a unique sound.

Must have own transport, basic equipment and if you have a practice space that's a plus but not necessary.

Must be musically open-minded.

Mixed, but mostly originals. My influences: silverchair, my chemical romance, the butterfly effect, evanescence...

At the moment I am looking for a drummer, bassist and guitarist. Contact me if you are interested.

History of a 'miraculous mineral'Asbestos was used in scores of home materials during the 20th century, but there was a cost.By Arrol Gellner, Inman NewsOctober 1, 2006 Over a century ago, American builders began using a remarkable mineral product. Being mined from a type of serpentine rock, it was natural, abundant and easy to produce, yet its unique properties made it almost limitlessly useful. It was resistant to chemicals and intense heat. It was an excellent electrical and thermal insulator. Out of its fibers, you could weave a cloth that wouldn't burn. You could even mix it with other materials to make them stronger and more fireproof.ADVERTISEMENTOver the course of the 20th century, American industry — with the government's blessing — found thousands of uses for this miraculous mineral.Woven into a cloth, it was used to insulate electrical wires. Mixed with a binder, it made a fireproof insulation for pipes and ducts. Mixed with cement, it made a host of practically indestructible

So what is it with these SNOG guys? Just when we have them all figured out as agit-prop electro propagandists they go and drop a brand new CD-EP the title track of which (City) is an electro-"power ballad". And a strangely affecting and even touching electro-"power ballad" at that. Don't they know that electronic bands are meant to just make the same record and over and over again? Sheeesh. This could really upset the apple cart.

And what's with those new collaborations with those denizens of the dubstep deep Monster Zoku Onsomb? Are they weird but kinda catchy or what? And Thrussell (if it really is Thrussell?) now he sounds a bit like a mutant Berlin cabaret singer from the 1920s over an elastic mashed-up beat. This really is too much.

And then they bring out the remixes, The Calculator's svelte dancefloor killer, Curse Ov Dialect's straight-up insanity and to top it off right near the end of the record there is some guy sounds like he is singing songs around a camp fire to a bunch of Girl Guides.

I was excited to listen to another Aussie R&B singer doing well... until I heard her album.Felicia Alima's album Know Me, features mostly boring music coupled with a vocal style that sounds like a direct rip off of Ciara. It is very hard to take this album seriously. In fact, her opening song Know Me starts exactly the same way lyrically as Ciara’s massive single “, 2, Step. I wouldn’t say the album is completely awful. I mean, I did find one track that I dug. The fourth track on the album I’m Down is an acoustic guitar inspired bouncy club-friendly joint featuring rapper Phoenix. Unfortunately, two tracks later she rips off Prince’s classic When Doves Cry for the flow of the song. For the rest of this review check out: http://www.planeturban.com.au/album_reviews/album_felicia_alima_know_me

Kobo Town Nominated For "Best World Artist Group" By The Canadian Folk Music Awards

The Canadian Folk Music Awards announced on Wednesday, October 17th that Toronto-based, roots-calypso act Kobo Town had been nominated for "Best World Artist Group." The 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards, being held on December 1st at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec, will recognize Canada's outstanding writers, producers and performers of folk music and the artists who are expanding the genre in innovative and exciting ways.

Led by Trinidadian singer/songwriter Drew Gonsalves, the group has strived to revive the folk traditions of calypso while making it relevant for a new generation of listeners. The Toronto Star noted that "they're [Kobo Town] a musical bridge between two cultures, and a tenuous link to what may be a dying folk art."

The announcement capped a hectic week for the band, with a successful showcase performance at the OCFF (Ontario Council of Folk Festivals) conference, where

Created by the psychedelic trance pioneer Simon Posford and Benji Vaughn the mastermind behind Prometheus and The Egg. The pair team up once again to create their second album, a breathtaking album with stunning sound production, that takes listeners on an incredibly varied musical journey.

"The Last Days Of Gravity" is a unique MeleE of electronic, acoustic, and vocal music, running the gamut of beautiful, strange, catchy, psychedelic, melancholic, uplifting. Despite its consistently psychedelic tone, the album has a very human element to it, and you can sense the spirit and emotion that have gone into its creation.

The harmonic variety of "Last Days" is particularly mesmerising. The bindingly riveting melodic lines provide echoes of Posford's earlier work in Shpongle and Celtic Cross, as well as of his more recent collaboration with the legendary Alan Parsons. This album is no retro piece of work, however, with Posford and Vaughn's legendary innovation resulting in a complex mix of styles that eludes
