IT'S ALL ABOUT GETTING HEARD

This time last year EDM4MUSIC did not exist! Songwriter Sally Edmondson had set up Every Day Music Publishing as a vehicle to promote her own songs and had just met Jaime Boylan. Jaime had returned to Jersey having graduated, top of her class from the top of her class, from The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Jaime went on to record some of Sally’s songs and March 2006 Sally was promoting Jaime singing her songs and HMV Jersey was selling Jaime’s CD. By April 2006 Sally seemed to be attracting other bands, artists and songwriters all wanting to be heard and EDM4MUSIC had arrived! EDM now promote artistes from Jersey, London, Derby, The Algarve, Australia and now The Cameroons with the addition of the young band Elexir who are writing their own material. “My original thinking behind creating EDM4MUSIC was to promote Jersey’s young, emerging talent with Jaime and Off Limits in mind, but without advertising we are now promoting 13 artists/ba

Starting a band...
Blog Entry
Hey,

I'm a 21 year old female from the North Eastern suburbs. I don't have any band experience yet but I do have some performance experience with my singing school. I prefer to do vocals though I can do some basic drums and a few chords on the acoustic guitar. I also write lyrics.

Open genre - a result of different players musical preferences and styles combining as one to form a unique sound.

Must have own transport, basic equipment and if you have a practice space that's a plus but not necessary.

Must be musically open-minded.

Mixed, but mostly originals. My influences: silverchair, my chemical romance, the butterfly effect, evanescence...

At the moment I am looking for a drummer, bassist and guitarist. Contact me if you are interested.

History of a 'miraculous mineral'Asbestos was used in scores of home materials during the 20th century, but there was a cost.By Arrol Gellner, Inman NewsOctober 1, 2006 Over a century ago, American builders began using a remarkable mineral product. Being mined from a type of serpentine rock, it was natural, abundant and easy to produce, yet its unique properties made it almost limitlessly useful. It was resistant to chemicals and intense heat. It was an excellent electrical and thermal insulator. Out of its fibers, you could weave a cloth that wouldn't burn. You could even mix it with other materials to make them stronger and more fireproof.ADVERTISEMENTOver the course of the 20th century, American industry — with the government's blessing — found thousands of uses for this miraculous mineral.Woven into a cloth, it was used to insulate electrical wires. Mixed with a binder, it made a fireproof insulation for pipes and ducts. Mixed with cement, it made a host of practically indestructible

Jess Harlen Releases Debut Album Beat Broker
News Item
Release date: March 5 2010

Record label: Plethora Records

Harnessing her lyrical introspection, distinctive songwriting and fusing it with renowned Mercury Prize winning producer Plutonic Lab, Jess Harlen reveals her remarkable debut album 'Neon Heartache'. The record embarks upon unchartered territory of soul music, drawing on subtle hip hop beats, reggae rhythms and moments reminiscent of Motown.

Described by Rave Magazine as "what real soul is meant to be - from the soul, not from the formula", Neon Heartache's lead single, 'Watch the Water' combines the grace of acoustic melodies with dynamic rhythm while effortlessly offering up picturesque ocean imagery. It is a beautiful contrast to the track 'Diamond', a crackling gritty bass-driven blues number backed by midnight reflection and heartbeat tempos.

The second single 'I Go' is the album's most ethereal moment. Against a backdrop of shimmering harmonics, Harlen's earthly tones dance along a glistening undercurrent. The atmosphere is comple

Felicia Alima - Know Me JM
News Item
I was excited to listen to another Aussie R&B singer doing well... until I heard her album.Felicia Alima's album Know Me, features mostly boring music coupled with a vocal style that sounds like a direct rip off of Ciara. It is very hard to take this album seriously. In fact, her opening song Know Me starts exactly the same way lyrically as Ciara’s massive single “, 2, Step. I wouldn’t say the album is completely awful. I mean, I did find one track that I dug. The fourth track on the album I’m Down is an acoustic guitar inspired bouncy club-friendly joint featuring rapper Phoenix. Unfortunately, two tracks later she rips off Prince’s classic When Doves Cry for the flow of the song. For the rest of this review check out: http://www.planeturban.com.au/album_reviews/album_felicia_alima_know_me

If you're looking for some cool kids music that's actually good music that adults can enjoy too, then Move Your Boots by The Bramble Jam fits the bill. From the opener ("Going To a Party") and the clever second track ("Pancakes") and right through all the silliness about smashing bugs and mommy losing her marbles and all the way to the finale (a bonus version of "Piggies"), Move Your Boots is a winning mix of acoustic-based pop/rock with occasional reggae grooves and terrific percussion throughout. The production is surprisingly crisp for an indie release, and the smart, funny songwriting is certainly on par with some of the better (and better-known) children's albums out there.Interestingly enough, it seems that everyone from They Might Be Giants to Ziggy Marley is putting out a kids CD. Maybe it's because they know they can sell well on name recognition alone, or that their fans all have kids now, or that there's probably more money in it (or all of the above), but it's not as easy it might sound. Kyp Malone is almost as busy as Jack White. While not participating in the amazing TV On The Radio, Kyp can be found moonlighting in a band called Iran. As if that wasn't enough, he has now launched a solo project called Rain Machine. And you know, it's different that those other two bands. Sure, you can recognize Kyp's and at times his skronky guitar sounds but as for song structure Rain Machine manages to sound quite different. The best track on the album is by far the proper album opener "Give Blood" for which Malone has released a cool bedroom video for. It's a catchy, upbeat track. Strangely enough "Desperate Bitch" is quite a mellow track. You would have thought this would be one of his angry tirades, but in the end he stretches the song out a little too far making it to the 8 minute mark.Even Eastern style music is dabbled with on the track "Driftwood Heart". "Love Won't Save You" probably should have been dropped from the set. It's a quiet rambling with just Kyp and an acoustic guitar that never seems

Hailing from Arizona, The Constellation Branch were formed initially as just two (singer Jordan Cruz and guitarist Bryce Hill) in 2006 and having gone through various metamorphoses/demos/bassists they finally settled on a steady four-man line-up. The two additions were drummer Stephen O'Sicky and bassist Aaron Motley and in July 2007, armed with a few recordings and many dreams they went ahead and started work on 'The Dream Life, The Real Life, The Empty Glass...'.I'm told by Bryce Hill that this fully-length, expertly-engineered recording was recorded 'primarily at their friend's Mom's house', which gives this instant plus points for imaginative solutions - the sound quality and balancing is spot-on, so either somebody's Mom has an acoustically perfect basement or there is some real sound engineering talent behind this album, and Bryce credits Mike Dwyer and James Mitchell for the production. Top marks for them both, I say. That's on top of the album itself - a moody, melodic post-hardcore gathering of ideas

Rodney Crowell hit the big time withn 1988's "Diamonds and Dirt," which had five number one Country singles. Originally part of Emmylou Harris' Hot Band, Crowell gathers together some hot session players and producer Joe Henry for his fourth record. "Sex & Gasoline" is an acoustic, bluesy record that showcases Crowell's jaundiced but romatic lyrics (ie: "I don't mind growing old/as long as I can still laugh). The title track, "Moving work of art," "Truth Decay," "I want you # 35", and "I've done everything I can" are the best songs, and all are built on the same kind of ruminative, spare country guitar, a few blues licks, some high lonesome Western strings, and that solid, wise writing. The poignant "The night's just right" and "Forty Winters" show more regreat that the other tracks, but they still shine with that hard-won hope that makes this a great record. There are only a few stumbles here. "The rise and fall of intelligent design" and "Funky and the Farm-Boy" ring hollow, a bit pedestrian, with perfuncto

There can't be a more literal title in the Putumayo catalog. Jazz Around The World is literally a presentation of various jazz stylings from around the world, though without the usual solid context that Putumayo is known for in its collections. While most of the tracks chosen are solid-and some relvelatory-there is an arbitrary feel to it as well. I guess there would have to be: with the whole world available for inclusion, how do you choose? Some familiar names are here, like Billy Cobham, Kora Jazz Trio, Quebecois cabaret singer Chantal Chamberland. For the most part the set focuses on Latin and Adro-Cuban rhythms, which have been a vital part of world music, and often some of the best music period, of the last fortry years, the styles have always had an awkward releationship to jazz, however, at least American jazz, which has tended to water those genres down into either a tepid fusion or Supper Club exotica. That problem is present here; even when the music presented is by artists from those regions, the c

Abaji is at home in the many sounds of the Middle East and South Asia. "Origine Orients" is almost a survey of the deepest soul of several styles from those regions. Whether on bouzouki, sitar, oud or guitar, Abaji provides a constant and comforting dexterity that underlies most of the tunes while not taking away from their emotional impact. This is intimate, celebratory music defintely designed to be listened to in the company of loved ones.Whether it is the prayerful mourning and slurred percussion of "Desert to Desert," the haunting, solo bouduk basse of "Hidden Soul," or the oddly Cohen-esque dark acoustic folk of "Min Touwwa," Abaji seems at ease in his musical skin. Even on "Rayehh," a slow building cabaret tune, or "Mecaralavenis," song of grizzled hard won joy that might be at home on a Tom Waits record, Abaji wields both instrument and voice with confidence and generousity. Five languages and a few homemade instruments also help make "Origine Orients" an exercise in inclusion. Abaji claims to have ov
