We have a responsibility to safeguard our most vulnerable; instead, we prematurely catapult them into a world they are not mature enough to handle and destroy their innocence. Frequently, I am asked by parents and friends of aspiring stars to offer my opinion about getting their child into show business. Recently my publicist, Marsha Friedman, President of Event Management sent me the following question: After the performance I spoke with her mom (who was in tears the whole time) about their incredible daughter and her future. Their daughter's dream is to be on stage singing professionallyI said I would forward some information to you - to get your thoughts. After much contemplation, I wrote to the parents (excerpt):

Let me preface this by saying that I have the utmost respect and admiration for songwriters who can write song after song. Those very talented individuals who, while they are sitting on the plane, in the bathroom, or at a dining table, grab a napkin, the roll of toilet paper, the safety guide on the airplane, or whatever may be handy and start frantically writing. While I have had this inspiration once in a while, its not a fluent talent. So my hats are off to you! Has anyone else been hearing a beautiful new song called "Flicker" by the group Saucy Monky? I just heard it over here in Ireland on Today FM (Ireland's national radio) this morning and it's BEAUTIFUL! It's a love(lost) ballad, and Cynthia Catania (the lead singer on it) is kinda like Chrissie Hynde, I guess you'd say. Her voice is really soothing and sexy, I find, but it's also mature and you can feel the emotion behind it. It's my fave track off their album, which I JUST HAD TO go and buy after hearing it on the radio so much. And I'm a freakin' poor college kid - so go figure. Wow, I actually SUPPORTED an artist instead of stealing the track from online...so F**K you, RIAA!! :-) Plus, the disc was dirt-cheap. it's an 9-track mini-album EP that is selling for something ridiculous at HMV and Tower for like 9.99 EURO (that's what I got mine for anyway) and I see it's available on their site for the same price but in US dollars!

How I Feel About It :

We reviewed Di Evantile's Inertia last December and I remember thinking that Beatrice Clarke went a little easy on it. It seemed a little too Animatronics, too machine-like and the keyboard sounds seemed too cheesy and overused. Even if it was superbly orchestrated (and some of it well-played) it sounded a bit hollow and soulless to me. So imagine my surprise when I drew Infrared Clock to review. I thought, "Here's an excellent chance to set the record straight." But Di Evantile changed some things, and for the better.

This album is dreamy and trance inducing. It's the perfect music to go to sleep to, without actually inducing sleep. There's something at once modern and primeval about it, and it urges the listener to dream on an epic scale without requiring epic amounts of energy to do it. NazB calls for all rap artists to get together to speak out against knives and guns

The internationally renowned Rapper, NazB is coming to the UK this July to campaign for an end to knife and gun crime on the street. He believes that rappers have a unique role to play in stopping youngsters carrying knives and guns. He is appealing to fellow rap stars to support the cause.

NazB is spreading the message through his gigs at the clubs in London and through the TalentGold website.

NazB says "Rappers have had a bad press like they are supposed to think it's cool to carry weapons. Not true. We love the kids and don't want to see them getting into real trouble. We think that the kids will listen to what we say because they respect us. So I say to all you kids out there - don't carry knives or guns. If you get into trouble you will hurt others and will suffer for the rest of your life. Don't do it".

Just letting you know that today we released our brand new remix compilation, with remixes by Si Begg, Tobias Schmidt, Tokyo techno bod Captain Funk, Jason Leach from Subhead, Steve Cobby from Fila Brazillia, Toshiyuki Yasuda (ex-Fantastic Plastic Machine), plus a wad of Japanese and Australian producers, including Melburnians Pat Stormont and Isnod.

The compilation is titled "Little Nobody presents SLAM-DUNK NINJA: The Perspicacious Remix Selection" (rather long-winded, we know!!), and there are 18 tracks in all, veering from electro to crack house, on into glitch/techno and IDM, and departures toward hip hop.

It's a remix selection of past and present tracks originally hacked together by myself, except (18) composed by Devin Wine, and "Cocaine Speaking" originally composed by me, Jeff Willis, and Francois Tetaz.

Self-indulgent? Hell, yeah!

With Australian music getting better and better all the time it’s a rare privilege to review an Australian album that is truly incredible. Lowrider has produced Diamond Amongst The Thieves and have not only hit a home run, but they’ve knocked the ball way out of the park! From the moment this album starts, you would never think that firstly Lowrider is Australian, and secondly that they are white. Lead singer Joe Braithwaite has an incredibly soulful and dramatic voice made for funk/soul/blues/hip hop and I know you’ll agree. Heavy beats, heavy flow, heavy lyrics…so much is heavy with this album that maybe Mike Street should have perhaps called himself Heavy Mike…had he actually been physically heavy. But for what Mike Street is, which is both in some cases original and in some not, it is worth putting your ear to his album The Man and The Dream. Although this young aspiring artist doesn’t cite The Game as one of his influences, he sounds remarkably like him without the level of rasp in his voice and slightly less enthusiastic rhymes. Following on from the success of Day of The Dog, one of Australia's most outstanding Hip Hop acts, Bliss N Eso are back with their most impressive album to date. The guys have obviously spent a lot of time on this over the past couple of years, as the quality of beats, turntable skills and general production are as good as ever. The first single off the album Bullet and a Target, which samples Citizen Cope, was one that I absolutely loved after first hearing it. After traveling to South Africa as part of the Oaktree Foundation, the idea to document the political climate and day-to-day life many under-privilege South Africans go through ended up being a very moving and thought-provoking song.
