We’ve all seen the graphic images of piles of dead bodies alongside desperate & starving people in the earthquake stricken country of Haiti. Hundreds of thousands of homeless, hungry & desperate people fighting for survival. They need food, water, medicine & shelter & that’s exactly what the Red Cross is doing on the ground in Haiti.

Harlem || Watch || MP3 Austin can now add another band to their ever-increasing list of up and coming young artists; this one goes by Harlem. Formed during the summer of 2007 in Nashville, TN, the duo of Michael Coomers and Curtis OMara were soon blacklisted in Nashville for getting into fights with all the kids who played music there. The duo then brought their raucous live show, which includes the duo switching between guitar and drums throughout, to Tucson and then to California. Curtis claims they moved to California for fame and fortune but all we got was a walk-on role in a new movie. After landing bassist John Hostetter and finding a fit in Austin, Harlem released their debut LP Free Drugs via Female Fantasy Records, and started to generated significant attention. 2009 came with lots of changes for me. I took a break from the crazy amount of shows i played the previous year. I perfected the wild and crazy garage/breakbeat style I was workin on since late 2007 and was pretty happy with it. I tested it out the tracks from this album live on a few shows in Austin and Houston and people loved it.

Upon completion of the 12 tracks I choose for the album I realized something. There is not much call or interest these days from record labels on the sort of fast style I made. Not to mention I used too many bootlegged acapellas because i was hungry for high quality samples and too impatient to find other artists to get vocals from.

So I have decided to tone it down, make fidget/bassline and say no to the bootlegs for a bit. Its already paying off. And with this decision I am making these tracks available for free download.

To kick-start this year's Music Conference and Festival, SXSW teams up with NPR to present a showcase headlined by Austin's own indie-rockers Spoon. The band will have just returned from a European tour and the concert at Stubb's will mark the first U.S. performance of material from Spoon's new album Transference, set to debut January 19.

Interested in concert poster art? On February 5th, Austin will play host to a Texas premier of the documentary film, American Artifact: The Rise of American Rock Poster Art. Directed by Merle Becker, this film examines the beginnings of the poster art movement and traces its varied history through interviews with the artists themselves.

Alex Karpovsky's Trust Us, This Is All Made Up made a big splash with its world premiere at SXSW 2009. We recently caught up with director Alex Karpovsky to see what's been going on with the film since last March. Hi Alex. So what's the deal with your film?
