A couple of years back Lightsounds pioneered a way for our customers to release their own original music via the Circuit Breaker CD. With a nationwide callout we received hundreds of entries from all over Australia and even from ex-pats living in Japan and the UK. The debut Circuit Breaker CD established a new standard in home grown electronic compilations when released in 2007. Circuit Breaker artists went on to receive air and club play both locally and internationally, sign record deals in Australia with tracks even licensed overseas.

There's a bit of psychology involved when it comes to making customers happy. I had a fascinating phone call last week from a friend who's moving her office. Getting her telephone system up and running in the new location has become somewhat of a mind-boggling experience. As I listened to her account of the experience, I couldn't help but think back on Lily Tomlin's "Ernestine the telephone operator" character on Laugh-in. Remember that classic phrase, "We don't have to be nice, we're the phone company"?

Getting telephone service in this modern, computerized day and age should be as simple as making a phone call. Yet it seems the more technologically advanced we become, the more we slide backwards on the customer service scale. First, my friend was put through a "press-this-for-that" phone maze. Deep 1 EP kicks off with DJ Hi-Shock Remix, and as you would expect, Hi-Shock blatantly feels right at home remixing a track with such atmosphere. The track starts by building on the atmosphere created in the original with more useful reverb and effective panning, opening the stereo field. Movement is created with kick drum pattern variations before the introduction of the Hi-Shock trademark arrpegiated bass line that really takes this track up a notch or two. Perfect for the transition into putting the dancefloor to work.

Deep 1 Original Mix is s a sound scape of phasing percussion and delayed warm pads layered on top of a kick and hi hat combination that keeps this deep little number chugging along. A nice use of reverb really creates the space desired here in a track that would not be out of place on a Code Red Compilation back in the day.

Lifted from their 'No Rest' album released in May 08, independent Hip Hop/Rock eight piece Casual Projects emerge from the nations capital with their oh so catchy third single 'Time'. Here is a juicy little morcel to sink your teeth into. Former Salmonella Dub frontman Tiki Taane is redefining his signature sound with his first solo offering 'Past, Present, Future'. The first single 'Now This is it' will blow your mindwith it's strength and intensity. Described as "musically fearless, intensely personal and culturally significant", Taane reflects, "I've never worked so hard, ventured so deep or asked so much of myself as I did during the production of this album."
