Laos History Stone tools discovered in Huaphanh and Luang Prabang provinces attest the presence of prehistoric man in its stage of hunters and gatherers over the Lao territory since at least 40,000 years ago. Agriculturist society seemed to appear during the 4th millenia BC as evidences have been found by archeologists-jar burials and other kinds of sepulchres have revealed a complex society in which Bronze objects appeared around 1500 BC and iron tools were known since 700 BC. The proto historic period is characterized by contacts with Chinese and Indian civilisations. As a result between the fourth and eighth century. Between the fourth and eighth century communities along the Mekong River began to form into towships, so called muang. This development culminated in the formation of the Lan Xang (Million Elephants) Kingdom. In 1340 AD, Kind Fa Ngum led an army of 10,000 men in conquests in all directions: to the south, as far as the Khmer border; to the north as far as Sipsong Phanna (Yunnan
Machine Vision Do's and Dont's by Austin Weber For some people, learning how to ride a bike or swim comes naturally. For others, it’s one of the hardest things they ever do. Implementing machine vision technology can often be a similarly easy or difficult scenario. Despite numerous advances, vision systems remain somewhat intimidating. However, thanks to new software and improved components, the black art of imaging and image processing is better understood these days. More manufacturers are becoming comfortable with machine vision, thanks to lower costs, simpler designs, increased flexibility, higher reliability, more powerful algorithms and increased processing speed. End users are also benefiting from increased functionality and new capabilities, such as higher resolutions, greater field of view and better color imaging. In addition, there is less propr
OUT NOW in all good download stores!Active Limbic System - XibalbaActive Limbic System are a pretty new name to the trance scene, but one that has already made an impression, with releases on Solarstone's Electronic Architecture compilation and numerous remixes. It is with great pleasure that Borderline Music presents Active Limbic System's strongest release so far, Xibalba. After having a test play on a Summer Promo Mix, mixed by label boss Activa, the response was phonomenal, with a massive amount of amazing feedback for the track and for ALS.With a definite underground and possibly leaning towards pay trance flavour, the original mix is pumping while keeping an uplifting and spaced out feel in the break and massive impact on the kick in.We think its so strong and shows exactly what Borderline Music is about that we are putting out Xibalba in its original glory, not tainted or diluted by any remixes. Just straight up, quality underground trance music. We hope you like it too.

As you can tell from the banners appearing all over Wikipedia, their fundraiser is in full swing. Despite Wikipedias importance as a global resource, only about one in a thousand Wikipedia readers donate. One way to improve that would be better banners, and thats why my research group is launching the Wikipedia Banner Challenge, a website to collect and prioritize banner ideas for Wikipedia. You can participate by voting on banners and suggesting new ones. It is quick, easy, and even a little fun. The Wikipedia Banner Challenge builds on previous innovative efforts by Wikipedia to involve their community in the design of the fundraiser, especially during the 2010 fundraiser. In a continuation of that community-driven spirit, Wikipedia announced on their blog that they will be watching the results from the Wikipedia Banner Challenge closely and will use some of the most promising banners during the fundraiser. In other words, your banner could appear in front of Wikipedia users around the world.

By any measure, Nic Fanciulli has had a banner year in 2011. His label Saved kept up a monthly release schedule without ever losing focus on dancefloor tracks that mattered, releasing heavy-hitting singles from Gary Beck, &ME, Leon, and others; on top of that, artist albums from Steve Mac and Spencer Parker proved that the label isn't limited to thinking one track at a time. Fanciulli fattened up his own catalog with collaborations with Subb-an, Gary Beck, Stacey Pullen, and his brother Mark Fanciulli, among others, including Joris Voorn, with whom he made the runaway hit "Together." Add in his Worldwide Sounds podcast, relentless touring and the Saved Weekenders in his hometown of Maidstone, and you've got the very picture of an artist hitting his stride and showing no signs of slowing down. This week saw the release of Fanciulli's latest record, "The Test"—a collaboration with none other than UR's Rolando. We reached out to the Saved boss to find out more. Read on for the full interview. Re
