This band is the exact opposite of their name. The typical 98 lb Weakling that gets sand kicked in his face courtesy of Mr. Atlas, illustrated in their cartoon on the band's site, goes home and puts on a 98 lb Weakling record (an album not a CD). He returns to the beach all dressed up looking cool then takes his guitar and smashes it over the bullies head, end of story, he gets all the babes, happy ending.

MusicDish LLC, publisher of leading music magazines MusicDish and Music Industry News Network (Mi2N), announced a partnership with Atlanta-based Waveform Media, a music business directory publisher that operates a resource music site for musicians.

Under the partnership, MusicDish has developed a white label newswire for the Waveform Media site, featuring coverage of the indie music scene as well as search, news submission and RSS functionalities. In turn, MusicDish will gain valuable advertising through Waveform Media's website and monthly local print music business directories, available in Atlanta and slated for release this fall in Nashville, Los Angeles, and Boston. So what is it with these SNOG guys? Just when we have them all figured out as agit-prop electro propagandists they go and drop a brand new CD-EP the title track of which (City) is an electro-power ballad. And a strangely affecting and even touching electro-power ballad at that. Don't they know that electronic bands are meant to just make the same record and over and over again? Sheeesh. This could really upset the apple cart.

And what's with those new collaborations with those denizens of the dubstep deep Monster Zoku Onsomb? Are they weird but kinda catchy or what? And Thrussell (if it really is Thrussell?) now he sounds a bit like a mutant Berlin cabaret singer from the 1920s over an elastic mashed-up beat. This really is too much.

And then they bring out the remixes, The Calculator's svelte dancefloor killer, Curse Ov Dialect's straight-up insanity and to top it off right near the end of the record there is some guy sounds like he is singing songs around a camp fire to a bunch of Girl Guides.

Dance music is rife with mediocrity. Producers move in packs, as scenes evolve stepwise and dubstep is in many ways no different. Here Kode 9 uses covers to challenge that norm. Where Stalker was once a Junior Boys love song, he turns it to obsession, amid sparse soca-step shards. Sign Of The Dub, however, is truly remarkable: a beatless dub cover of the Prince classic. No percussion means no momentum: youre immobilized by its immense bass-pulse and delayed reggae stabs. Police sirens wail into the distance while Daddi Gee growls: Some people say/a man never truly appy/unless a nex man/truly dies the times/its the times. Innovation and zeitgeist in one.

This first album on Kode9s Hyperdub label comes from the mysterious Burial. On this self-titled CD debut, Burial carves out a sound which sends the dormant slinky syncopations of uk garage, via radio interference, into a padded cell of cushioned, muffled bass, passing through the best of Poles Berlin crackle dub.

Burial explores a tangential, parallel dimension of the growing sound of dubstep. Burials parallel dimension sounds set in a near future South London underwater. You can never tell if the crackle is the burning static off pirate radio transmissions, or the tropical downpour of the submerged city outside the window. In their sometimes suffocating melancholy, most of these tracks seem to yearn for drowned lovers. The smouldering desire of Distant Lights is cooled only by the percussive ice sharp slicing of blades and jets of hot air blowing from the bass.
