Roadhouse Rebels Bio

Roadhouse Rebels is an Aussie 60's & 70's pub rock blues covers band with the emphasise on sounding like the music from that era using authentic instruments such as Ray Vanderby's 1959 Hammond C3 organ and Leslie rotating speaker. Roadhouse Rebels was founded in 2007 by veteran sideman Hammond organist Ray Vanderby and the band members have had many years experience performing songs from this classic rock blues era both in their own bands as well as being hired as sidemen to some of Australia's top artists including: Blackfeather, Doug Parkinson, Marcia Hines and Stevie Wright. The band is based in Orange NSW and travel throughout the central west performing successful shows in pubs and clubs. If you like the sound of The Doors, Steppenwolf, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Cream, Deep Purple, Manfred Mann, Free, John Mayall, Blues Brothers, The Angels, AC/DC, The Animals and The Troggs, then you will love Roadhouse Rebels!

New World/Folk/Roots duo Bethany & Rufus along with Fulani flutist Yacouba Moumouni and Afro Haitian drummer 'Bonga' Jean-Baptiste will release a new CD, entitled "Live A Fip" on October 22, 2009. The Bethany & Rufus Roots Quartet "Live A Fip" CD features 12 tracks, and will debut in Europe on the Daqui Records label.

The "Live A Fip" CD release was a natural extension of Bethany & Rufus' collaborations with Jean-Baptiste and Moumouni. Bethany & Rufus, who share the same label with Moumouni, also shared the stage with him for one song during the 10th anniversary celebration of Daqui Records. They knew instantly that their political beliefs and musical chemistry would bond them together, catapulting them forward with continued performances. Rodney Crowell hit the big time withn 1988's "Diamonds and Dirt," which had five number one Country singles. Originally part of Emmylou Harris' Hot Band, Crowell gathers together some hot session players and producer Joe Henry for his fourth record. "Sex & Gasoline" is an acoustic, bluesy record that showcases Crowell's jaundiced but romatic lyrics (ie: "I don't mind growing old/as long as I can still laugh).The title track, "Moving work of art," "Truth Decay," "I want you # 35", and "I've done everything I can" are the best songs, and all are built on the same kind of ruminative, spare country guitar, a few blues licks, some high lonesome Western strings, and that solid, wise writing. The poignant "The night's just right" and "Forty Winters" show more regreat that the other tracks, but they still shine with that hard-won hope that makes this a great record.There are only a few stumbles here. There can't be a more literal title in the Putumayo catalog. Jazz Around The World is literally a presentation of various jazz stylings from around the world, though without the usual solid context that Putumayo is known for in its collections. While most of the tracks chosen are solid-and some relvelatory-there is an arbitrary feel to it as well. I guess there would have to be: with the whole world available for inclusion, how do you choose?Some familiar names are here, like Billy Cobham, Kora Jazz Trio, Quebecois cabaret singer Chantal Chamberland. For the most part the set focuses on Latin and Adro-Cuban rhythms, which have been a vital part of world music, and often some of the best music period, of the last fortry years, the styles have always had an awkward releationship to jazz, however, at least American jazz, which has tended to water those genres down into either a tepid fusion or Supper Club exotica. It was fun playing 3 guitar solos, but not that fun listening to a dozen solo verses after each other, so I switched between the track an let a jambone and Pearl have a solo spot. I plugged Pearl through Melodyne to control her pitches, now if I could control what she was saying I would be elected honorary member of the Frankenstein society.
