The duo dubbed Thunderheist combines serious rib-cage-rattling breaks with an equally heavy-yet-clever raunch factor. Raw rhymes come courtesy from emcee Isis, a Nigerian-born, Canadian-raised, Toronto-storming phenom. Hard-hitting rhythms are courtesy of Grahmzilla, who conjures up soulful Dilla-inspired head-nod music under the alias Metrix, but, alongside Ms. Isis, can't help freaking it out squelch-style for the dance floor. His hip-hop background combined with party rocking is what makes Thunderheist's sound a perfect blend of old and new. Thunderheist isn't just next-level dance music; it's jump-up-and-down, shake-your-hair-so-hard-you-catch-whiplash mayhem.

Newcastle : various venues

Founded in 2000, Sound Summit is an annual conference for independent artists, labels and people that work and create in the fields of innovative electronica and hip-hop, and any sounds lost between the two.

For eight years Sound Summit has been core to exploring the depths and reach of these sounds, giving musicians, producers, composers, promoters and fans the opportunity to interact, reflect and collaborate, building communities around what they do and exploring how they do it. It's a nice M.O. to inherit.

This year we're focusing on those communities and the virtues of the collaborative mind. Through parties and panels we'll be looking at what it means to be making music as an independent artist, in independent communities, in Australia today. With so much self-reflexivity over one weekend who knows what'll happen?

Radio Free DC sees the Fort Knox boys delivering universal salutations of peace with such a heavy dose of horns, brass, keys and - well - funk, that it would even get James Brown breaking it down.

An influential force in the international funk and breaks scene, Fort Knox Five are already responsible for an arsenal of crowd bouncing singles and remixes including monster mixes for A. Skillz and Krafty Kuts, Kraak & Smaak, Ursula 1000, Dynamo Productions, and Mo Horizons, as well as remixes for the legendary Tito Puente, Louis Armstrong, and Bob Marley.

The Guardian UK says "These guys put the 'fun' into 'funky', the 'aargh!' into 'R&B'. FKF are fairly bursting with life. Imagine if PUBLIC ENEMY were a go-go-band, if SLY & THE FAMILY STONE made an album with PRINCE PAUL at the controls, if CURTIS MAYFIELD joined forces with a stoned BOMB SQUAD, if AFRIKA BAMBAATAA had managed to coax one final tour of studio duty out of N

One of the first 12 inch singles I bought was D-Train's "You're the one for me". Back in the early 80's when it was released, it came close to being a crossover radio hit in many countries. I was used to hearing the short radio mix but became amazed at the extended remix I found on the 12" pressing. Back then I did not to care much for b-side instrumental versions which were usually the same as the A side with just the vocal removed. This made the track less exciting to me. I instantly looked at the label to see who had crafted this amazing piece and saw the name of Franois Kevorkian. I had just heard my first Dub mix as I found out it was called. I had never come across such a creative remix before and it literally changed my life. From then on I was chasing all of Franois K's mixes and decided, I to
