Di Evantile has done a brave thing with Transformations - an instrumental album broken down into "episodes", all of which is done with electronic instruments or classical instruments that have been put through some sort of electronic treatment, and not a spoken word through nine tracks. I call it brave because it's easy to take music made in this manner the wrong way. I probably have at least twenty Facebook friends who have decided they're "DJ's" and constantly post remixed music tracks and beg their friends to "like" them. This is not what Di Evantile is doing, and there's nothing pretentious or fake about the music he's made. Evantile calls himself an electronic composer, and that's probably the best way to describe him. He's arranged an album that creates its own sound rather than subscribing to a genre. I'm sure you could take Transformations to a club and people would dance to it, and I'm sure someone could sing over it, too, but the point here seems to be the mood it leaves you in. E

Veronica Falls are back for what is, by far, their biggest NYC show to date: they play Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday. There's not a dud in Veronica Falls' 36 minute running time. New songs are equals to early singles which appear here in newly recorded versions that might actually improve on the originals. This is haunted pop, a brisk October breeze that calls for a nice cardigan.Veronica Falls just released a new track, "My Heart Beats," to coincide with their North American tour and you can stream it at the bottom of this post. As expected, The Jungle Brothers DID bring out members of the Native Tongues (and others) last night at SOB's (2/7), but that did not include many of the "invited guests". The reunion and associated guest appearances were limited to Leaders of The New School (Charlie Brown & Dinco D, but sans the crucial Busta Rhymes), Jarobi (of a Tribe Called Quest), members of the UMC's and Black Sheep, Sadat X, Force MDs and possibly some others. Bum out, but it was sort of expected. No word on whether members of A Tribe Called Quest will be in attendance at Harlem Stage in March either, but they will be the subject of a three day event:On the heels of a major Producers Guild Award for the documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest -Harlem Stage, in conjunction with Revive Music, will celebrate the impact, importance and influence of the pioneering crew with A Tribe Called Quest: Innovation and Legacies - A Movement
