Saturday 21st June 2008

The Bowmans and Special Guests THE BOWMANS The Bowmans began their performance career as "singing puppeteers" in their hometown of Davenport Iowa. Sarah and Claires ability to harmonize was discovered (by their parents, of course) at the age of three. The twins began creating their own imaginative songs immediately upon the delivery of their first tape recorder with which they cut their first album, Chicks and Families Radio Rocks, a compilation which included performances by various artists such as Snot the pig, Little Bear Second Brain, and Bellbina. The seeds of a lifelong partnership were sown from the far-reaching success of that first album.

The twins have performed together regularly since then, early becoming fixtures throughout the Midwest from coffee-shops to huge outdoor festivals. At Duquesne they furthered their craft, playing several venues in and around Pittsburgh area while studying at the university. After finishing college, the Bowmans moved to Baltimore and continued performing together

If you've ever felt like your career was heading for a train wreck and didn't know where to turn, look no further than your own mirror. While you will find there are many people in the industry who will help you once you've succeeded, it's a far cry sometimes for anyone to help you when you are climbing up a ladder that sways in the wind and each rung seems like it's going down instead of up. The biggest inspiration you can have to avoid a career collision is to get up, look yourself in eye in your mirror and remember the classic children's book, "I Think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can." From "The Little Train That Could." Say to yourself when you are looking in that mirror that You Can do it! You will do! And then get out of your comfort zone and DO it! Then start looking on the Internet for local musicians meetings to begin your networking today. Build your list of potential supporters one hand shake at a time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nashville, TN--October 3, 2005--Who knew that this country singer was really a closet chanteuse? Dyann Woody makes a seamless transition from 'Yee Haw' to 'Ooh La La'. She not only has the voice of an angelic siren, but what will amaze you even more is just how easy and pleasing her music is to listen to. She reaches across many genres and meshes elements of '70's singer/songwriter style, jazz, blues and pop with the art of a well-crafted lyric.

Although this is Dyann's first solo album, she has shared musical success with her husband as part of the Country Music Group, The Woodys. Their debut album on Rounder Records went #1 on the Americana charts; they were voted the Top County Vocal Duo at the International Music News Awards and have received worldwide critical acclaim for all three of their albums. However, there was still a part of Dyann that was musically unfulfilled. She wanted to write songs that expressed all of the emotions and experiences that she and other women h

Peter Bloom is a singer-songwriter who learned all the right lessons from John, George, Ringo and especially Paul - not to mention Elton John and John (Five For Fighting) Ondrasik. This is simply gorgeous piano/orchestral-based pop, carried to the next level by Bloom's insightful lyrics and full-bodied melodic sensibilities.

"Let It Go" is a knockout opener, a mid-tempo plea for resolution whose jangly guitar, thrumming organ and keening string accents help Bloom build to a soaring, affecting climax that sums up everything a good ballad should be.

The orchestral flourishes that open and color the fringes of "Walls" could have been lifted from Revolver, but weren't; these are original confections using familiar music

The sound is big and the promo release has been receiving terrific dancefloor response from clubbers. Enjoy and play it out loud!

"The Disko Ghost mix of Diskotek is very grabbing - it shares the insect-driven tech sensibilities with Jeff Mills, circa the Waveform Transmission days"

- Little Nobody (Melbourne, Australia)

THE ORB

The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. The group popularized the genre as well, by appearing on the British chart show Top of the Pops and hitting number one in the U.K. with the 1992 album U.F.Orb. Frontman Dr. Alex Paterson's formula was quite simple: he slowed down the rhythms of classic Chicago house and added synthwork and effects inspired by '70s ambient pioneers Brian Eno and

JIMMY RECARD

THE FIRST SINGLE FROM 'BROTHERS GRIMM ' 'Jimmy Recard' is the magnetic first single

from 'Brothers Grimm', the 3rd album from

West Australian MC Drapht . 'Jimmy Recard' is the magnetic first single from 'Brothers Grimm', the 3rd album from acclaimed West Australian MC Drapht. If a name is the first thing we inherit upon entering this world, it must surely play a critical role in the determination of who we become. In 'Jimmy Recard' Drapht reflects on what could have been had he not been christened "plain old, boring old Paul". A brilliantly catchy and tongue-in-cheek party-starter, Jimmy Recard is the story of the "king of the castle" and the "king of the bar-stool" - a man with the world at his feet. With Drapht's unique voice and funky, hypnotic flow layered over a soul-fuelled, guitar driven beat, 'Jimmy Recard' is an instant classic. While it may be true for Jimmy that "everything he touches turns to gold", the same could well be said for his doppelga

by Mark Kirby,

Whether you call it praise music or New Jack gospel, this genre is most often a classic case of "preaching to the choir," with song lyrics lifted artlessly from the King James bible and histrionic music calculated to "reach out and touch somebody's hand." Dear god. Luckily, Charles Laster II and Silvia Pratesi don't make this mistake on their new record Journey of Life. Their songs reference salvation, heaven, and living the Christian life but, like secular soul music, have an uplifting universality. Those of us who aren't Christian - agnostics, Muslims, those whose spirituality can't be pigeonholed - can still understand the positive spirituality that is the wellspring of Laster and Pratesi's music, and still get our groove on. Laster, who composed the excellent lyrics, and Pratesi, who created most of!

the music with a seamless combination of live musicians and samples, remind us how gospel and rhythm and blues gave birth to soul music in the early sixties and how a new kind of s

MONSIEUR CEDRIC Feat. MISSY BLUE "Music Is..."

First release ever for Monsieur Cedric, one the most efficient DJ of the GKF rooster. Originally coming from French-Riviera, but now based in Milan, this "world-citizen" has been travelling the world to spread his eclectic sound for the past ten years. The artist wanted some French vocals, that's why he teamed-up with Veronique Leboucher a.k.a. Missy Blue for that classic-deep-house masterpiece. The DJ will perform in Miami during the WMC, meet him there with the rest of the Gotta Keep Faith Records teamMonsieur Cedric likes house-music, and he likes it deep. The "Cedric Goes Deep Main Mix" is the perfect after-hours track: after the storm, comes the voice of Missy Blue which tells you all about "music", the track is smooth, slow but also powerful. Then, with the "Cedric Goes Deeper Dub Mix", things get a little darker and minimal with some 303 sound that will kick your dance-floor. The "Instrumental Mix" will let you fully appreciate the music while

Mac Dre Presents Starters In The Game JM
News Item
Any West Coast rap fan would expect to hear classic West Coast beats from a classic West Coast heavyweight, that is, the late Mac Dre. However, since Mac Dre Presents Starters In The Game is not actually an album of his but rather a collection of some collaborations he did in his final years, plus songs from artists who have taken in his shadow or are paying tribute to him. In a sense, this is kind of similar to what has repeatedly been done with 2Pac's music - his vocals taken and placed over a more modernized beat, plus a bunch of tracks slapped on from artists who wish to somehow pay tribute to the man. But 'modernized' is not exactly a synonym for 'good.' For the rest of this review please check out: http://www.planeturban.com.au/album_reviews/album_mac_dre_presents_starters_in_the_game

I was excited to listen to another Aussie R&B singer doing well... until I heard her album.Felicia Alima's album Know Me, features mostly boring music coupled with a vocal style that sounds like a direct rip off of Ciara. It is very hard to take this album seriously. In fact, her opening song Know Me starts exactly the same way lyrically as Ciara’s massive single “, 2, Step. I wouldn’t say the album is completely awful. I mean, I did find one track that I dug. The fourth track on the album I’m Down is an acoustic guitar inspired bouncy club-friendly joint featuring rapper Phoenix. Unfortunately, two tracks later she rips off Prince’s classic When Doves Cry for the flow of the song. For the rest of this review check out: http://www.planeturban.com.au/album_reviews/album_felicia_alima_know_me

Amidst the bass-driven allure of London's underground clubs, DJ Daniel Carro found something more alluring than the nightly vibe. As a devoted enthusiast of techno, breaks and Chicago House, Carro set out to transcend the participatory realm of a club scene that entrenched him for years. While studying music production in Bournemouth, UK, in 2005, he met Jon Chant, a party promoter/DJ who helped turn the South UK-based clubs into a breeding ground for a sound defined by its jackin' bassl

Mastery of tribal jackin break-house is a very specific talent and for over a decade this British producer has been at the forefront of it all; releasing groundbreaking mix CDs, remixing the world's most acclaimed artists and knocking out dancefloor destroying productions.

From the start of his DJing career is 1989, Lee bathed himself in the acid house scene at parties around London and Cambridge. Soaking up as much of the filth and grime as he could, Coombs soon developed a signature sound, one that combined elements of breaks, house, electro, techno and acid.

In 1998 Coombs made his first massive strike on the breaks scene as the prized recruit of hip label Finger Lickin', where he released the acclaimed album Future Sound of Retro, well and truly placing him on the world stage. His impressive releases such as the re-dub of Quivver's One Last Time made dance fans across the globe go weak and also caught the attention of industry heavyweights such as Pete Tong.

A Brief History of Nothing MusicDish

by Phil Campbell,

In October 2007, legendary performer Charlie Nothing passed away at his Soquel California home. The following article was originally published in The Fretboard Journal, Number 6, Summer 2007. Charlie was pleased with the story, saying "I've had interviews and articles before but yours is the best by farS Thank you so much!"

Thank you Charlie Nothing! We miss you.

According to his official biography, Charlie Nothing "was not born, did not go to school, did not die," and his main instrument is the dingulator. Obsessive record collectors may recall his name from the 1967 LP The Psychedelic Saxophone of Charlie Nothing, one of the only non-guitar records released on John Fahey's Takoma label. Contemporary listeners might know Nothing from his powerful performance of dingulation, as he calls his music, in Chicago at the 2005 Two Million Tongues Festival. Featuring a roster of difficult-to-categorize musicians, it was the ideal venue for this difficult-to-categorize performer. Josep

Multi Gemstone Rings, Why Wear A Multi Gemstone Ring.

Look around and you will find that gold rings or silver rings with many colored gemstones

are very popular. The eariliest jewelry designs for rings with multiple gemstones were

mainly an effort to combine sparkling diamonds with larger sized gemstones. The diamonds

were included to add accent and glitter to the gemstone.

However the current trend is to combine various colored gemstones into one ring. There are

a few reasons why jewelry lovers choose to wear such multi colored gemstone rings:

(1) The first and foremost reason is the beauty and attractiveness of rings with multiple

gemstones. The color combinations are unlimited and you can let your fancy run wild. Your

imagination and the size of your budget are the only known limitations.

(2) Rings with many gem stones also match well with garments of different colors. Put simply,

a ring with a deep red garnet and a citrine gemstone would go well with a dress that is red

or off white,
