Recently my publicist, Marsha Friedman, President of Event Management sent me the following question: After the performance I spoke with her mom (who was in tears the whole time) about their incredible daughter and her future. As a musician, bands have it easier than a solo artist in terms of cost to make a CD. Other than that, there are little or no differences. For bands/artists who wish to start the process of making, distributing, and getting radio airplay by themselves, believe it or not, you are starting your own record label. Even if your goal is to land a major recording contract, you will still need to gather more attention for your music by cutting, distributing and promoting your own music. Youll have a much better chance at getting a great record deal with a major label if you are successful on your own first.

Ever since the notion of "disco" was filtered through our collective system and guiltless straight people began to enjoy rhythm-based music again-OK, call it post-Acid House-Trance music has undergone a great cell division.

Genres begat micro-genres, which mutated into wholly new forms. Some conferred coolness, others solidified into cheese. That, in itself, was fine because, in clubland, nothing is worse than a tired sound. But DJs got so bent out of shape over how to categorize a particular track or producer, they often seemed to drown in the sea of minutiae. Movement 2009 will be the biggest electronic music party Memorial Day Weekend, but there will be an additional 13 Official Movement Parties taking place in Detroit and Windsor starting Friday May 22nd through Monday, May 25.

"Techno and Electronic Dance music fans love the festival atmosphere," said Jason Huvaere, Movement festival director, "and we want to keep the party going after the festival so we partnered with some great local promoters to host our official Movement parties."

The most highly anticipated Movement After-Party is the festival's closing party on Monday, May 25 because it launches the new partnership between Movement Detroit and Movement Torino. It will be the beginning of a new era for both Movement festivals.

The partnership between the two festivals was first announced at a press conference at the end of April. Electronic Music icon Derrick May introduced the two groups in 2008 and they began discussing how they could work together to make Movement a global brand.
