all girl Roller Derby is here! North Brisbane meaniegrrl
News Item
Forget about just skating around in circles, an all women flat track roller derby team, the 'Northern Brisbane Rollers' is forming in the Pine Rivers area. "Anyone woman living in the Brisbane area is welcome to our beginner sessions at Albany Creek Skateaway", says Chyna Rhino. "many of the girls haven't skated in 15 to 20 years and are getting out there and giving it a go."

Roller Derby was revived a few years ago in the United States and is now taking off in popularity all over the world. "The sport these days is a bit different to what many people may remember from the 70's and 80's. It has less over the top theatrics and features a strategic game on quad roller skates with a bit of a punk aesthetic." Chyna Rhino explains, "We follow the rules set by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association in America. It isn't just about knocking down as many girls as possible."

Girls are also encouraged to dress up in crazy outfits and take on a pseudonym to fit their team persona. "In the Northern Brisbane Rollers we

Arguments happen in every kind of relationship. They're just a part of life. Therefore, it's how we handle those moments that will define the future of our relationships and how well they prosper and grow. I am sure that you've heard it said many times that in a heated moment you have to watch your words.

This is because words are very powerful and whatever you say can never be taken back. So try to follow a few basic steps when a heated argument arises in your life. Step back and don't say a word until you have had a chance to process the situation. Try to really hear, not just listen to what the other person is saying. Even if you don't agree with them, accept the fact that its how they feel and you will go a long way if you hear what they are saying. Your partner will begin to feel validated and believe that you do care about their feelings.

Once you have listened to your partner's side, offer to sit down to discuss the matter together. It's important to use an even tone, no matter how angr

If You Can Use a Fork, You Can Play for York Torontoist

The Varsity Blues forty-nine-game losing streak is officially yesterdays news. They mustve enjoyed their first victory since 2001, because two weeks later they won again, a notable accomplishment for a football program that hadnt won a game in almost seven years. It was also a highly symbolic victory: as the seconds ticked away, a torch was passed in Canadian university men's football. The team they beat, the York Lions, is now the worst team in the entire country. By a mile. York isnt merely losing: theyre getting killed. Heading into yesterday's game against the Queen's Golden Gaels, theyd scored seventeen points and allowed two hundred and ninety-three...in five games. Their previous two losses had been shutouts. And that was before facing the team ranked second in the nation. Prior to kickoff, Queen's fans were predicting a sixty-point victory. And here's the thing: it never sounded like idle boasting. It wasnt just because Queens is really, really good (although they are), but

Opening Night! It's Opening Night! Torontoist

Get ready, hockey fans: six months of wanton self-flagellation begins tonight in Detroit! Happily, the Toronto Maple Leafs wont be breaking many hearts this year: theyre simply not good enough. Barring a miracle, theyll miss the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year (which"considering the team had never missed three consecutive playoffs until last year"is noteworthy). Their problems are myriad"but they start with an apparent dearth of firepower. Mats Sundin is still A.W.O.L., and no one seems poised (or capable) of picking up his scoring slack. Jason Blake should be more productive (and, to be fair, he had way more important things to worry about last year), but to quote an infamous Guardian comment about Manchester United: "Where are the goals going to come from?" (For what its worth, that comment came prior to the 2006/07 Premier League season"which Manchester United won, all the while scoring more goals than any other team. Were assuming this has nothing whatsoever to do with the 2

Dead Confederate: Good To Meet You JamBase

By: Kayceman Dead Confederate "We're kind of in our own world onstage. I really hope it translates, and I hope you enjoy it, but we're not going to kiss your ass for no reason," says Dead Confederate bandleader Hardy Morris. "We're just being honest and putting our hearts on our sleeves, because that's what people are interested in. That's what was so great about Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Dylan told the whole world everything that was going on with him and that's why people loved him." Throw on Dead Confederate's debut album, Wrecking Ball (released September 16 on TAO/Razor & Tie and recorded in Austin, TX in the same studio where the sound effects for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre were laid down) and you'll take Morris for his word. This is an unforgiving, highly emotional affair, and there ain't no saccharine to help wash down the sentiment. Theirs is a dark, atmospheric, fuzzed-out form of psychedelic rock that's just as much grunge as it is classic. It's mean and burde
