Bobby Valentino - Sexy Girl JM
News Item
Bobby V has never impressed me and Sexy Girl doesn’t either. Bobby Valentino falls back on the same old formula of, ‘ Baby you are fine, baby you are gonna be mine’ .. booring! Even the more easily pleased punter would find this track hard to take thanks to the lack luster hook and annoying delivery. However, the beat is some what of a saving grace as it contains some nice, subtle guitar and behind a breezy, cool groove. Good music, regardless of genre, sometimes seems to get overlooked or underappreciated; whether it is because of restrictions (limited radio/TV exposure), fickle listeners or a number of other reasons. However, when an album as vibrant and invigorating as The Formula comes out, it is hard to avoid, or at least difficult to understand why others aren’t paying attention. For more of this review please check out: http://www.planeturban.com.au/album_reviews/album_9th_wonder_buckshot_formula

THE ORB

The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. The group popularized the genre as well, by appearing on the British chart show Top of the Pops and hitting number one in the U.K. with the 1992 album U.F.Orb. Frontman Dr. Alex Paterson's formula was quite simple: he slowed down the rhythms of classic Chicago house and added synthwork and effects inspired by '70s ambient pioneers Brian Eno and

The What 4 Debut CD: Say it Straight 'The What 4', Adelaide's new, experimental rock band have just released their debut, full-length CD, 'Say it Straight'. The band members, from diverse backgrounds, combine their experience and talent to produce a unique, melodic and innovative groove. Previous/current projects include: Martire, Free Moving Curtis, Beltane and Lankey. While focusing on dynamics and a simple formula, the band is driven by a fluid rhythm section, atmospheric synthesizers, emotive guitars, satin vocals and sound effects. After generating interest through live performance over the last few months, the band were surprised when local alternative radio station '3D' responded with plenty of airplay, sending 'The What 4' to No.1 on their weekly chart twice this year. Interpol - Our Love To Admire (2007) Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews

They had it all at the point they made Antics. They mastered what made the general public melt, from the hooks to the lyrics. Then they moved into a new record label, to foreign ground. They could have just duplicated the method that has worked for them in their previous album. But what makes Interpol so respectable is the fact that they decide to take a different path every time, regardless of what their circumstances are. As a result, Our Love to Admire derives from an entirely new concept that is innovative yet also eyebrow-raising. Our Love to Admire is a very clean and well-produced album. On the other hand, a sense of emptiness lingers in the work. Perhaps the shortage of hooks, the lack of apparent direction, and the sleepy rhythm section all contribute to the vacancy. Songs such as “No I In Threesome” and “All Fired Up” are some of the best on the album, but they do not have the features that immediately grab a listener. Certainly the bareness does not detract fro

This Or The Apocalypse - Monuments (2008) Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews

Here approacheth another in a continuing series of reviews concerning Lifeforce Records and some of their roster's '08 output. It's always a good thing to become acquainted with labels, especially those within your favorite genres; it's the easiest way to continually find albums you'll be interested in hearing. Unfortunately, most of these Lifeforce efforts I've been hearing have fallen a bit flat. Not really awful, but no more than middle-of-the-pack stuff. This Or The Apocalypse is one of the younger bands onboard, and Monuments is their sophomore showing. The band, one of the modern hardcore/metalcore sound, is heavily dependant on the quick-fingered rambling of Jack Esbenshade and Rodney Phillips. Over the album's 45 minutes or so we're hearing the youthful passion most great metal needs, but channeled through formula and procedure, which dulls the impact. You're gonna notice right from the opening riffs of "No Horizons", that this band fits in the niche of "whatever"-core that's been a dominant scene for

Awesome Color - Electric Aborigines (Australian Edition) (Hi Thermostat

In Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity, Rob, Dick and Barry formulate one of their top five lists on ‘Five Best Side One Track Ones’. Surely if the novel were written sometime after now, “‘Eyes Of Light’, Electric Aborigines by Awesome Color” would stand a chance of making at least one of their lists. After a brief stint of feedback, the track blasts in as an energy ball of visceral power and doesn’t give up for five and a half minutes. Some minimal, grungily melodic singing punctuates the cymbal and snare wash of drummer Alison Busch, Michael Troutman’s overdriven bass groove and the electric guitar wall of Derek Stanton. They follow this with other variations of their take on mid/late-60s garage punk, sometimes adding organ, all quite successful. Sometimes Stanton’s vocals take on the feel of Kings Of Leon’s Caleb Followill, which suits just fine. The band never sounds like anyone specifically, but there’s a whole history of sound in which th

Electribe * electribe0386 * Baunder * Recaptured Ears / True Humpty Records New Releases

Paul Carr aka Baunder is hailing from Buenos Aires. After his previous productions found home on labels such as Urbantorque, Baroque, Plastik Park, Segment Rec. and have been enjoying support by the likes of Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Satoshi Tomiie and D-Nox, Electribe is happy to present this hot talent with two impressive tracks. Both tracks captivate with bassy heavy beats and an excellent sound design. Recaptured Ears" starts with a repetitive, thrilling techno groove, that more and more joins forces with a catchy, rising trance line in order to set dancefloors on fire with a majestic break-down - and to finally fall back into its main groove. True Words" follows a similar formula of success, though with less melodic and more old school appeal. Starting with an electrifying bass, its an infatuating 303 line, that provides us another break to die for. Music for the mass, but with class! And as if thats not enough dancefloor madness, Netherlands shooting star Kabale und Liebe, who brought us one of t

Krescent4 To Showcase New Release Emperor At The Ontario Independent Music Awards Ann Arbor, MI-November 1, 2007-Krescent 4 the hometown boys from Michigan are set to showcase their new album Emperor at the Ontario Independent Music Awards in Toronto November 15th at The Phoenix Concert Hall. The event is also a charity event for The Toronto Wildlife Center. The band is very excited to be a part of the event, which supports indie music and charity with Rock ‘n’ Roll. The band will also be picking up a gig November 16 at The Savannah Room in Toronto. K4 features Kris Keller (guitar), Stimy (vocals), Adam Nine (bass) and Kurt Keller (drums). They are a tightly knit unit that focuses on delivering powerful guitar licks to push their sound to an incredibly high energy level. It all boils down to Rock ‘n’ roll but it is too general a statement to explain the K4 sound. They also bring elements of metal to their sound, which gives them a much wider, decidedly younger audience.

The Secret Machines: A Band Reborn JamBase
Syndicated
By: Andrew Bruss The Secret Machines It's been one rocky year for The Secret Machines. Following the departure of founding member and guitarist, Benjamin Curtis, The Secret Machines' future was uncertain. Further solidifying this uncertainty was a lack of support on the side their label, Warner Bros., who didn't exactly see the changes within the group's camp as a cause for optimism. Fortunately, the group managed to break away from the politics of major labels, and as of today (October 14) has released their third LP, the self-titled Secret Machines, via the newly founded TSM Recordings. JamBase had the opportunity to discuss the group's future on several different occasions over the past few months. Prior to a below-the-radar performance in Allston, MA, the band, including new member Phil Karnats (guitar), spoke with us in depth about their difficulties getting the new record out. Additionally, following the announcement of the album's October release, we caught up with Josh Garza
