Event
Thursday 26th June 2008

Polaroid Fame - Facing Extinction East Coast Tour - Thursday June 26 - The Step Inn, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane Polaroid Fame, Patrick Tunney, Sarah Haigh and The Westminsters Polaroid Fame

Announcing their debut single 'Facing Extinction'

and Facing Extinction East-Coast Tour

A recent with Pete Murray in Melbourne's The Age newspaper featured a pic of 'what's on Pete Murray's iPod'. First on the list, just above Credence Clearwater Revival, was a band called The Frankie Band (now Polaroid Fame) - with the words "Young exciting indie band from the Byron Bay area (of NSW)."

Byron Bay quintet Polaroid Fame are proud to announce the release of their debut single 'Facing Extinction' - and to celebrate are hitting the bitumen on the Facing Extinction east-coast tour. The tour will see them yo-yoing up and down the eastern seaboard throughout June, July and August.

Whilst Polaroid Fame may hail from the Northern NSW laidback surfing Mecca that is Byron Bay, they are not another acoustic rootsy band

Dubstep is in, people. On the back of universal plaudits showered upon Burials exploration of the genre in Untrue, its influence has become substantially more noticeable. Although Danish artist Jens Berents Christiansen " better known as Rumpistol " has been creating music for the majority of this millennium, an excavation of dubstep is undertaken in the ambient minimalism of his impressive third record, Dynamo, his first since 2005’s Mere Rum, released through his own label Rump Recordings. What makes a record like Dynamo such a beguiling listen is that it refuses to narrow its focus. Sure, dubstep is an overt touchstone, particularly on tracks like Analog and the pogo-bounce of opener Transit, but Rumpistols musical palette consists of so many more colours. Take Analog for instance: ambient electronica and even reggae are subtly incorporated into eroded, androgenous vocals and skittering shards of rhythm. Mobile is indebted to the classic glitch pioneers; its static beat is contorted and

Behind the McTuff Exterior JamBase

By: Court Scott McTuff by Brian Willoughby I'm experiencing a moment of reverie, reflective and leaning against the ornate rail of the dance floor dressed to the nines in my maid of honor garb, watching a fabulous, if slightly reluctant wedding band wind their way through one of the most unique nuptial celebrations I've attended. On the small stage, McTuff lays down a blistering hard groove met - both literally and figuratively - at the altar by traditional jazz and blues melodies and set free by funk's irreverent attitude. Many of the 150 guests are dancing; furthest from the band and monitors couples locked in an embrace gracefully pivot and spin like Disney's teacup ride while younger attendees have gathered closer to the front to form a loose semi-circle and giddily let their backbones slip. The band and the crowd, the bride and groom, swing and cavort like a couple of pros, giving the "celebrities" on Dancing with the Stars a run for their money in the attention-grabbing department. Backyard Tire Fire: Never Came Easy JamBase

Backyard Tire Fire by Eric Schwab

Working rock 'n' roll bands are the salt of the earth. It's the largely unknown folks that stuff themselves and their battered gear into near-death vans and wobbly trailers to run with the sputtering torch lit by Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and the other snot-nosed pioneers in what became rock. These bands might not be on TV or cutting sponsorship deals with energy drinks but you can be damn sure Buddy Holly, Joey Ramone and Ronnie Lane are looking down on them with ear-to-ear grins. It ain't a pretty or secure life but for the ones that kneel at this roughshod church it's the only life.

"We've been out in that van for YEARS! We're always happy to just get out there in front of people, maybe win a few new fans for the next time through, sell a few records. We're not gonna stop and just hope there's a few more folks with us each year," says Ed Anderson, singer-songwriter-guitarist-bandleader of Backyard Tire Fire, who are very much a t
