Brisbanes Blank Realm has done just this of late, to the extent that their breakthrough 2007 release Free Time seems comparatively dreary only 12 months onward. The group has kept busy with a slew of releases including this most recent one for Not Not Fun, their second on a label that has become synonymous with a recent trend of noise/drone bands bleeding colourful psych influences into their music, Pocahaunted and Sun Araw being two prominent examples. In keeping with that trend, Mind Peril is a decadently weird album - one that abandons any notion that Blank Realm is rooted in the blissed out monotone of drone or the consistently miasmic grind of noise. Elements of these styles can be found here, but theyre brewed with kraut rock, Dead C style rock demolition and arcane synth atmospherics. Blank Realm is clearly concerned with texture and teasing new emanations from their instruments, but theyre not afraid to apply a f

Part of the increasingly interesting Kindred Spirits reissue series, digging lost and underrated gems from the 1970s, this is an absolute must for any jazz and funk fan, as it contains a large slice of both. Incredibly funky from start to finish, the drums are so on point, underpinning a vibrant brass section, funky guitar and warm rhodes flourishes. Great vocals on a couple of tracks, Work And Pray and Loving Kindness, he has a surprisingly bluesy vocal style, which works really well on these slower tracks. Its the jazz/funk workouts that really showcase his style, Rib Crib 1 and 2, are straight up dance floor movers, with that hint of afro-beat that really gets the pace moving. for a couple days last week as well...Of course Mick & I

ended up in my studio and begun writing this,and didn't

leave the studio until the lyrics were written..I want to

Monkey B from Buenos Aires, who already released Fassade records or Googoo or who had a remix on Paradroids Snork2, brings you the forward funk in his track on side A of this record. The original has a monster groove filled with a lot microsampling-house like parts and little influences from the so called good old "Brighton Techno". This track is the perfect choice to start your party if other records havent reached this! Push the button or pull the trigger!!! Julien Chaptal is known for his deep housy grooves which he recentlypresented on his Tokens LP on Area Remote and all his other work for this label and 100% Pure. On side B of the Forward Funk, he added much more housy and playful percussions to the beats of the remix version to get a more gallant way of house in this track.
