Generative Music Visualization - Radiohead’s Bodysnatc Synthtopia
Syndicated
I’m a fan of Glenn Marshall’s music videos and his latest video shows why. It’s a generative video exploration of Radiohead’s Bodysnatchers, from In Rainbows. Heres how Marshall explains how the audio is interacting with the generative video: 1. Bass guitar - makes the red shading on the red zeno pulsate. 2. Lead guitar - affects intensity of inner ...

Cloud(s), Hype, and Freedom Freedom to Tinker
Syndicated
Richard Stallman's recent description of 'the cloud' as 'hype' and a 'trap' seems to have stirred up a lot of commentary, but not a lot of clear discussion of the problems Stallman raised. This isn't surprising- the term 'the cloud' has always been vague. (It was hard to resist saying 'cloudy.' ;) When people say 'the cloud' they are really lumping at least four 'cloud types' together. traditional applications, hosted elsewhere Probably the most common type of 'cloud' is a service that takes a traditional software functionality and moves it to remotely hosted, (typically) web-delivered servers. Gmail and salesforce.com are like this- fairly traditional email and CRM applications, 'just' moved to the web. If Stallman's 'hype' claim is valid anywhere, it is here. Administration and maintenance costs are definitely lower when an expert like Google funds and runs the server, and reliability may improve as well. But the core functionality of these apps, and the ability to access data over a network, have been pres

Cybernetics Serendipity Redux - A moderated discussion on YA Filter

Leonardo/OLATS, co sponsor of YASMIN, is pleased to announce Cybernetics Serendipity Redux

http://www.media.uoa.gr/yasmin/viewtopic.php?t=4385 A moderated discussion on YASMIN

Beginning September 1 2008 Discussion On YASMIN, led by Ranulph Glanville.

Moderators Ranulph Glanville, Paul Brown, Paul Pangaro 40 years ago, Jasia Reichart's exhibition "Cybernetic Serendipity" showed that cybernetics, computing and art had arrived. 40 years later, while computers and art remain, cybernetics has nearly vanished, although there is a reviving interest in art. In celebrating Cybernetic Serendipity we have the chance to re-open the debate, to reconsider the relationship particularly between cybernetics and art, and to do so taking into account the way that cybernetics has developed during its period of near invisibility. So what is new in cybernetics, and how can that inform art: and, what is new in art, and how can that inform cybernetics. read more
