While more general music festivals like GlobalUnderground and the upcoming ClubMed have been getting the majority of trance addict and underground djs attention in recent times, it was good to see Heineken Night with its strictly dance-oriented line-up - and one appealing to dance music fans right across the board - take its place amongst best Hotel and Resort in Malaysia.

With the likes of Dj Remilex ( Rotterdam Dj) and KampaiTeam as well as DJ Haikal headlining the Godskitchen Arena and Broxdj and Digweed in the Global Tent, it was only fitting then that Lee should bring together the cream of Asian Techno-Trance in his own arena.

Both artists/producers met two years ago at VRSTCK Club in Dortmund‐City

(Germany). Ever since Uemit Han and Tim Dicke have been working together to

create and develop a special live‐performance as well as a "realtime production

style" that both describe as "Alternative Techno".

Tim Dicke has paved his way into the electronic scene through being a drummer,

bassist and solo artist in Punk and Hardcore bands in the 90s and later on as a

DJ, while Uemit Han has been working as a DJ for the last 15 years including 9

years of music production experience. In 2006, Uemit won the remix contest to

Gabriel Ananda's "Gluecksmelodie" and also released tracks on Karmarouge,

Meerestief, Harthouse and other labels.

Hailing from Arizona, The Constellation Branch were formed initially as just two (singer Jordan Cruz and guitarist Bryce Hill) in 2006 and having gone through various metamorphoses/demos/bassists they finally settled on a steady four-man line-up. The two additions were drummer Stephen O'Sicky and bassist Aaron Motley and in July 2007, armed with a few recordings and many dreams they went ahead and started work on 'The Dream Life, The Real Life, The Empty Glass...'.I'm told by Bryce Hill that this fully-length, expertly-engineered recording was recorded 'primarily at their friend's Mom's house', which gives this instant plus points for imaginative solutions - the sound quality and balancing is spot-on, so either somebody's Mom has an acoustically perfect basement or there is some real sound engineering talent behind this album, and Bryce credits Mike Dwyer and James Mitchell for the production. Top marks for them both, I say. That's on top of the album itself - a moody, melodic post-hardcore gathering of ideas

This album is fantastic on the first listen, and just gets better and better with every play. At first the utter power could be somewhat overwhelming, but listen harder and it becomes clear Refused were methodical about the arrangements, and clinical in their execution. It hits you like a train, but a very good sounding train.

Aside from the creative musicianship, the vocal work here is also astounding. Dennis Lyxzens voice is venomous, spitting out song after song with a seeming never-ending energy. And given the lyrical ability of the band, the end effect is very pleasing. A creative mix for a genre which is so often just hit and run, 2 minutes of neck-breaking power at a time. Then it starts all over again. Refused break the tradition, with their stunning talent they dont need shock tactics, they play interesting and intelligent songs, a fresh idea for punk at the time.
