If there is one person, who has been causing a stir on the international club circuit recently, it is Barcelona's John Talabot. Looking back on the myriad of ways that the genre now known quite loosely as 'bass music' has mutated, one of the key figures in its evolution would have to be Bristol's Rob Ellis, better known simply as Pinch. His fascination with what the outer limits of the dub sound can achieve, has made him a distinct figure within the fluid group of like-minded dubstep musicians that defined the so-called Bristol sound. We heard from all three branches of the US Federal Government in one way or another, while the citizens of the Internet flexed their muscles in response. The most covered story of the week was the battle over SOPA and PIPA -- the twin proposed bills that aimed to cut down on online piracy of copyrighted works by giving the government significant new authority to block access to allegedly infringing web sites. Other authors on this blog have pointed out how the bills show inconsistency in the copyright industry's position on regulating the internet, could threaten free speech in repressive regimes, and may ultimately be found by the courts to violate fundamental constitutional liberties. The chef is Peru Amandoz, who has trained under such greats as Juan Mari Arzak and Ferran Adria, and he serves a Basque style tapas menu with both small and large plates.
