Walked in the door around 9pm hahahah ... to see Erther play and say hello ... but the lineup had been bumped around and someone was warming up things with a few tracks ... and when I returned to the floor with a drink ... aniki was playing.

Aniki got the shits pretty early on. The decks weren\\\\\\\'t stable and there was a fair amount of skipping, so he was crashing records togther but it didn\\\\\\\'t matter, as it was in keeping with the theme of the night, loud and raw. He finshed rather early I thought by dropping a Motley Cru track (God I think it was \\\\\\\'Kick Start my Heart\\\\\\\') and cranked it to 11 while he packed up ... Some people in the lounge closed the door in disgust and things were underway, truly a fitting way for the night to start ...

Any West Coast rap fan would expect to hear classic West Coast beats from a classic West Coast heavyweight, that is, the late Mac Dre. However, since Mac Dre Presents Starters In The Game is not actually an album of his but rather a collection of some collaborations he did in his final years, plus songs from artists who have taken in his shadow or are paying tribute to him. In a sense, this is kind of similar to what has repeatedly been done with 2Pac's music - his vocals taken and placed over a more modernized beat, plus a bunch of tracks slapped on from artists who wish to somehow pay tribute to the man. As a Filipino multi-media artist, I must humbly admit, I don't only compose and sing ethnic songs, needless to mention my ethno-techno compositions, but I also write and perform hip-hop music.

But why Hip-hop?

I. BRIEF HISTORY OF "PINOY HOP-HOP"

Honestly, though, I am new to hip-hop culture especially to the so-called "Pinoy Hip-Hop", imported from America and became prominent in the Philippines via some Filipino mainstream artists in the 1980s, but suddenly lost momentum in the early 1990s, and later resurfaced in the late 1990s onwards.

Among those forerunners of "new Filipino hip-hop generation" are young university college students who, out of disillusionment from authorities and the society, used hip-hop as a potent tool for protest and "self-expression".
