Every second Sunday of the month, at Pianos, resident performer Mademoiselle Lena of False Aristocracy, curates a night of Curious burlesque and variety, in two acts [ @ 11pm + 1am ].

The dance party continues throughout the night, from 10pm to 4am, to music provided by Mike Dextro of False Aristocracy.

This New Orleans styled event integrates live burlesque shows with a dance party, and while the themes for each night will differ, the general aesthetic will remain the same. Naughty contests, various debauchery and comedic improv by the MC lasts all night.

One week after the devastating 7.0 earthquake which crippled Port-au-Prince and destroyed much of Haitis infrastructure, leaving hundreds of thousands dead or injured, residents are still suffering aftershocks and in desperate need of medical attention, emergency services, and basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter.

The Bay Areas music community has a longstanding tradition of coming together for benefit shows in times of crisis, and the Haiti quake certainly qualifies as a crisis. In its aftermath, world beat maestros (and frequent supporters of humanitarian causes) Sila and Maisha Productions have organized a benefit concert for earthquake relief boasting some of the Bay Areas best bands and solo artists.

The show, called San Francisco Hearts Haiti, takes place at the Independent January 27, and features SILA, Kalbass Kreyol (from Haiti), Bayonics, Native Elements, Joe Bagala, Meklit Hadero, Thank You Julius, and DJ sets by Jeremiah (with Afrobeat Nation), Non-Stop Bhangra Djs, Felina, DJ

A unique blend of high energy world music drawn from ska, rock, dancehall and hip hop creates this funky, poetic and hugely infectious sound. Before moving to London in 2001, Nicholai had been singing, recording and developing his own unique lyrical style in his home country of Trinidad. In 2002 he began to collaborate with guitarist Karlos Coleman.
