Queensland Ballet - The Amazing Magician kater1
Event
Thursday 2nd October 2008

The Concert Hall - Redland Performing Arts Centre

The Amazing Magician is an original story ballet for children created by Queensland Ballet's Artistic Director, Franois Klaus, as a humorous and educational introduction to ballet, music, and live theatre. The magician Hammamelis Coxinus discovers an incredible potion which brings his mechanical dolls to life, but instead of treating them nicely, he puts them to work, cleaning, mending and cooking for him!

If they refuse, they must dance to the music of his magic fiddle until they are exhausted. Eventually one steals the fiddle and seeks her revenge. Madcap chaos ensues, until the story-teller intervenes with a little magic of his own.

Relationship…for some that word stirs up fears of commitment and for others it conjures up the idea of ever lasting love. For many on the dating scene ‘ever lasting love’ is their ultimate goal but how do you find someone to go on a date with and once you do how do you go from date to relationship?

While the person you’re dating may be looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right, they may not be looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right now, meaning pull in the reins and go a little slower. But let’s start at the beginning instead of jumping straight to the finish line. Let’s get back to the basics.

To get back to basics, let’s start with a history lesson. Dating can be a scene right out of your High School memory banks. Many are haunted by memories of their first date and the nervous tension that resulted from the anticipation of it: “Did I pick the correct outfit?” “Will I smell good to them?” “Is my breath okay?” “What will

Me And Cassity - Appearances (2011) Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews

Written over the past year in many a European hotel room, the songs on "Appearances" feel like they have been with us for a long time. Dirk Damstaedter is also equally at ease solo and with a band. Me And Cassity is his band moniker; whatever he calls himself works for me. These are literate pop tunes with a sense of humor and a feel for the classic. Damstadeter writes songs that are positive, richly melodic, and often effortlessly poetic. "Time To Put The Hammer Down" channels Ryan Adams and Westerberg with wry, jaundiced lyrics and memorable melody; it features excellent harmonica work too. "Bring It On" is a kind of an abstract but gorgeous country tune, downbeat banjo-driven melody. In contrast,"The Last Troubadour" offers jaunty pop, full of great harmonies and 70s organ and horns; groping for the Beatles and occasionally finding them. There are three songs worth the price of admission that would be played for years on the radio in place of The Eagles in a perfect world. "This Side Of Tomorrow," "Fred

Koji Asano - Polar Parliament (2011) Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews

For his 46th full release, Koji Asano offers two tracks built on a single sound or two, with more warmth that the title would suggest. "Polar Parliament" is haunting and focused, a meditative and metallic drone. Asano knows his way around tones and silences, and the harmony between themThe first piece is basically a single pulse, kind of like a distorted tuba or household appliance. It is driven by the fluctuating and warped nature of that machine, whatever it is. The second track is a buzzing, moody drone, seemingly set in the sweaty basement of a factory. That sense of place however flimsy, is a sharp contrast to the disembodied limbo of the first piece.Koji Asano has quietly become a fixture on the ambient scene, a legend with seemingly no desire for attention. He just works and works, with a staggering, constant imagination. He does have a twisted sense of humor; "Polar Parliament" comes with a gift: a package of Kleenex with a similarly-sized photo of Asano inside the package. Not sure what the intende
