Prometheus Bound Neoapocalyptica
Event
Saturday, 13th February 2010

Cnr Boundary & Leichhardt Sts, Spring Hill, QLD

PB's 'Egyptophile' walks like a machinery encrusted Egyptian into Club 320 on Saturday 13th February with entertainment that will knock your kalasiris off. The Viola Cloning Project, Tease for Two, Mummy Unwrapping The PB Audio Corps We do so like an extravaganza in February, it sets a good tone for the year and 2010 is going to be a magnificent year.

With that in mind, Black Productions is proud to bring you: Egyptophile.

There will be mummy unwrappings, Egyptian dancing and a host of other fabulousness to knock your kalasiris off. No re-animating the mummies please, they're a bother to get back in the sarcophagus.

In addition to the Egyptological extravaganza, Voodoo Lulu Alternative Clothing have been enormously generous and are providing $150 worth of vouchers and a corset to the value of $240 to give away. The excitement is palpable over here at PB HQ.

Expect the usual brand of silliness and some wonderful entertainment from the likes of:

DollSquad is a six piece all female rock band from Melbourne single handedly reviving grrl rock! DollSquad Melbourne's DollSquad launch their new album 'Lethal in Leather' at the Junkyard, Maitland NSW

'Lethal in Leather' was produced By Steve Lucas from X and is out now on DollSquad's own label - Radio Rocks.

DollSquad is a six piece all female rock band from Melbourne single handedly reviving grrl rock! Originally formed as a four piece in 2004 in an attempt to combine the 'rock' sound of bands like The Ramones, DMZ, The Zeros and The Rolling Stones with 'girl group' sounds of bands like The Ronettes and the Shangri-Las. The four piece line up toured Europe extensively in 2006, releasing a vinyl 7" on Cherry Bomb records (Belgium) and a long player CD on Teen Sounds (Italy). The new six piece line up has a much tougher rock and punk sound, think 'The Runaways on steroids', 'Suzi Quatro goes punk' or a '1960's version of The Clash'.

These rock n' roll ladies are as striking visually as they are

Katie Noonan and the Captains 'Page One' EP Tour heapsacj
Event
Thursday 8th April 2010

Oxford Art Factory, 42 Oxford St, Darlinghurst

Fresh from recording their incredible new album with International Producer Nick Didia, Katie Noonan and her new band The Captains are very excited to get out on the road behind their epic first single 'Page One'.

'Page One' is a rockin' song co-written between Katie and her Captain's guitarist Cameron Deyell and legendary Oz songsmith Don Walker (of Cold Chisel fame) - a song that Katie wrote as a wedding gift to fellow Captain's keyboardist Stu Hunter and his partner.

Over the last two years Katie and 'The Captains' (Cameron Deyell - guitar, Stu Hunter - keys/bass, Declan Kelly - drums) have been slowly building a vessel of exciting new songs.

The release sees Kate return to her beloved lush, organic band sound and strong and inspiring personal stores.

Katie has written about half the album on her own and then co-written the other half with a host of Anzac luminaries including Tim Finn, Don Walker, Sia Furler, Josh Pyke, Tom Shapcott and her fellow 'Captains' band mates.

This time last year EDM4MUSIC did not exist! Songwriter Sally Edmondson had set up Every Day Music Publishing as a vehicle to promote her own songs and had just met Jaime Boylan. Jaime had returned to Jersey having graduated, top of her class from the top of her class, from The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. Jaime went on to record some of Sally’s songs and March 2006 Sally was promoting Jaime singing her songs and HMV Jersey was selling Jaime’s CD. By April 2006 Sally seemed to be attracting other bands, artists and songwriters all wanting to be heard and EDM4MUSIC had arrived! EDM now promote artistes from Jersey, London, Derby, The Algarve, Australia and now The Cameroons with the addition of the young band Elexir who are writing their own material. “My original thinking behind creating EDM4MUSIC was to promote Jersey’s young, emerging talent with Jaime and Off Limits in mind, but without advertising we are now promoting 13 artists/ba

Blog Entry
In todays society we know that the moral fiber of our communities is in peril. Why then, do we not protect our children? We have a responsibility to safeguard our most vulnerable; instead, we prematurely catapult them into a world they are not mature enough to handle and destroy their innocence. Frequently, I am asked by parents and friends of aspiring stars to offer my opinion about getting their child into show business. Recently my publicist, Marsha Friedman, President of Event Management sent me the following question: After the performance I spoke with her mom (who was in tears the whole time) about their incredible daughter and her future. Their daughter's dream is to be on stage singing professionallyI said I would forward some information to you - to get your thoughts. After much contemplation, I wrote to the parents (excerpt):

Blog Entry
If you've ever felt like your career was heading for a train wreck and didn't know where to turn, look no further than your own mirror. While you will find there are many people in the industry who will help you once you've succeeded, it's a far cry sometimes for anyone to help you when you are climbing up a ladder that sways in the wind and each rung seems like it's going down instead of up. The biggest inspiration you can have to avoid a career collision is to get up, look yourself in eye in your mirror and remember the classic children's book, "I Think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can." From "The Little Train That Could." Say to yourself when you are looking in that mirror that You Can do it! You will do! And then get out of your comfort zone and DO it! Then start looking on the Internet for local musicians meetings to begin your networking today. Build your list of potential supporters one hand shake at a time.

How to Market Your Band's Music and CD to Make Money by Jaci Rae - How to on Music and Money Jaci Rae - The Rae of Hope - The
Blog Entry
As a musician, bands have it easier than a solo artist in terms of cost to make a CD. Other than that, there are little or no differences. For bands/artists who wish to start the process of making, distributing, and getting radio airplay by themselves, believe it or not, you are starting your own record label. Even if your goal is to land a major recording contract, you will still need to gather more attention for your music by cutting, distributing and promoting your own music. Youll have a much better chance at getting a great record deal with a major label if you are successful on your own first.

Let me preface this by saying that I have the utmost respect and admiration for songwriters who can write song after song. Those very talented individuals who, while they are sitting on the plane, in the bathroom, or at a dining table, grab a napkin, the roll of toilet paper, the safety guide on the airplane, or whatever may be handy and start frantically writing. While I have had this inspiration once in a while, its not a fluent talent. So my hats are off to you! The statistics were very interesting and I hope not conclusive of what is going on in the music industry right now, although I suspect they are indicative of it.

51 Billion Dollars and rising! Sounds like a company a wise investor should invest in. After all, having a piece of a 51 billion dollar industry is an exciting prospect, filled with anticipation for the future right? Not this time. This industry takes away any hope for the future. Any promise of potential greatness is dashed to the ground, becoming ashes and dust when people continue to invest in this business. Warnings have been issued over the years advising people to avoid investing in this global industry. Still people chose to purchase the stock some one share at a time, others in large quantities.

KUALA LUMPUR -

Ever since the notion of "disco" was filtered through our collective system and guiltless straight people began to enjoy rhythm-based music again-OK, call it post-Acid House-Trance music has undergone a great cell division.

Genres begat micro-genres, which mutated into wholly new forms. Some conferred coolness, others solidified into cheese. That, in itself, was fine because, in clubland, nothing is worse than a tired sound. But DJs got so bent out of shape over how to categorize a particular track or producer, they often seemed to drown in the sea of minutiae. A music conversation with a DJ often resulted in a competition of cool, instead of the answer to the question: Um, did you like the record?

Bethany & Rufus Roots Quartet "Live A Fip" CD Debuts In Euro MusicDish

New World/Folk/Roots duo Bethany & Rufus along with Fulani flutist Yacouba Moumouni and Afro Haitian drummer 'Bonga' Jean-Baptiste will release a new CD, entitled "Live A Fip" on October 22, 2009. The Bethany & Rufus Roots Quartet "Live A Fip" CD features 12 tracks, and will debut in Europe on the Daqui Records label.

The "Live A Fip" CD release was a natural extension of Bethany & Rufus' collaborations with Jean-Baptiste and Moumouni. Bethany & Rufus, who share the same label with Moumouni, also shared the stage with him for one song during the 10th anniversary celebration of Daqui Records. They knew instantly that their political beliefs and musical chemistry would bond them together, catapulting them forward with continued performances. The trio became a quartet when 'Bonga' Jean-Baptiste was invited to perform with them the following summer at Les Nuits Atypique. During a promotional radio spot for the festival on Radio France in March 2009, the quartet was asked to perform live on the Live A Fip radio

Penalty Phase - Getting Out of a Tough Moment Jaci Rae

Arguments happen in every kind of relationship. They're just a part of life. Therefore, it's how we handle those moments that will define the future of our relationships and how well they prosper and grow. I am sure that you've heard it said many times that in a heated moment you have to watch your words.

This is because words are very powerful and whatever you say can never be taken back. So try to follow a few basic steps when a heated argument arises in your life. Step back and don't say a word until you have had a chance to process the situation. Try to really hear, not just listen to what the other person is saying. Even if you don't agree with them, accept the fact that its how they feel and you will go a long way if you hear what they are saying. Your partner will begin to feel validated and believe that you do care about their feelings.

Once you have listened to your partner's side, offer to sit down to discuss the matter together. It's important to use an even tone, no matter how angr

Turning a Date into a Mate Part I Jaci Rae

Relationship…for some that word stirs up fears of commitment and for others it conjures up the idea of ever lasting love. For many on the dating scene ‘ever lasting love’ is their ultimate goal but how do you find someone to go on a date with and once you do how do you go from date to relationship?

While the person you’re dating may be looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right, they may not be looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right now, meaning pull in the reins and go a little slower. But let’s start at the beginning instead of jumping straight to the finish line. Let’s get back to the basics.

To get back to basics, let’s start with a history lesson. Dating can be a scene right out of your High School memory banks. Many are haunted by memories of their first date and the nervous tension that resulted from the anticipation of it: “Did I pick the correct outfit?” “Will I smell good to them?” “Is my breath okay?” “What will

Bramble Jam - Move Your Boots (2009) Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews

If you're looking for some cool kids music that's actually good music that adults can enjoy too, then Move Your Boots by The Bramble Jam fits the bill. From the opener ("Going To a Party") and the clever second track ("Pancakes") and right through all the silliness about smashing bugs and mommy losing her marbles and all the way to the finale (a bonus version of "Piggies"), Move Your Boots is a winning mix of acoustic-based pop/rock with occasional reggae grooves and terrific percussion throughout. The production is surprisingly crisp for an indie release, and the smart, funny songwriting is certainly on par with some of the better (and better-known) children's albums out there.Interestingly enough, it seems that everyone from They Might Be Giants to Ziggy Marley is putting out a kids CD. Maybe it's because they know they can sell well on name recognition alone, or that their fans all have kids now, or that there's probably more money in it (or all of the above), but it's not as easy it might sound. As a new pa

Over Stars And Gutters - Consider This Your Curse (2009) Music Emissions Alternative Music Reviews

I don't know how this band isn't massive. Actually, I do. Over Stars & Gutters takes a Samiam template and goes with it. Samiam was one of those melodic punk bands that had something special and even had a shot on a major label. Clumsy was the album out on Atlantic and even though it ended up being a classic it hardly sold. Regardless, the band remains to be an influence in the punk world today, as is obvious when one listens to Over Stars & Gutters. These guys have the melodic punk with an edge down pat. Fantastic chugga chugga guitar break-downs with great sing along choruses. This Oklahoma based band has strong similarity with Hot Water Music as well, another quality melodic punk band. Some of the songs like "Never Again" are just begging for fans to scream out lyrics at live shows. Not only is their debut, Consider This Curse a good document of decent punk musicianship but it is well produced as well. It's got all the parts in the right places. Vocals are high enough in the mix that you can make out the ang

Tuesday 02.23.10: FREE ENERGY / MYSTERY LIGHTS Spaceland

Free Energy || Listen || Watch After the breakup of Minnesota indie band Hockey Night, frontman Paul Sprangers and guitarist Scott Wells formed Free Energy. Now based in Philadelphia, Free Energy take the blithe, hooky classic rock of groups like Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, and Tom Petty as their jumping-off point. After recording a few demos, the duo recruited a full band and hooked up with– of all labels– the uber-hip NYC dance powerhouse DFA. DFA honcho and LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy produced “Dream City”, Free Energy’s joyous sugar-rush of a debut track. “Dream City”, which we designated a Best New Track, is the last thing you’d expect from DFA. It’s a total car radio summer jam, a chugging singalong that could make a hell of a sitcom theme (a good thing!). – Pitchfork with:
