Marlene Dietrich's life and songs perfectly captured in a tribute show by French chanteuse Caroline Nin Caroline Nin "simply sensational a hugely entertaining show"

The Advertiser (Adelaide)

From the 30's to the 50's, Marlene Dietrich was the ultimate symbol of "femme glamour" meets "femme fatale". The extraordinary Caroline Nin uses song, spoken word and video to capture both sides of the Dietrich persona, set against the backdrop of her anti-Nazi campaign during World War II.

Her songs became the soundtrack to a world in turmoil, establishing new standards like Lili Marlene, The Boys In The Backroom and They Call Me Naughty Lola on both sides of the front line.

Nin draws on Dietrich's life and music to paint a warm, three-dimensional portrait of a passionate and witty woman who became both icon and hero.

Let me preface this by saying that I have the utmost respect and admiration for songwriters who can write song after song. Those very talented individuals who, while they are sitting on the plane, in the bathroom, or at a dining table, grab a napkin, the roll of toilet paper, the safety guide on the airplane, or whatever may be handy and start frantically writing. While I have had this inspiration once in a while, its not a fluent talent. So my hats are off to you! The statistics were very interesting and I hope not conclusive of what is going on in the music industry right now, although I suspect they are indicative of it.

Shifting ones and zeros while I'm listening to the electronic pulse of Style of Eye and live modern acid jazz, hiding in the corner next to the bookcase, my midnight muse.

After 400 plus hours of design and edits and six versions later, my publishing project has finally turned a corner, the same intersection that keeps me typing hundreds of pages and analyzing html code instead of creating hundreds of garments in my studio and workshop.

The technical challenge is moving into a downhill position and the editorial and a handful of electronic self expression is all that lies between myself and publishing my electronic art, fashion and culture magazine.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nashville, TN--October 3, 2005--Who knew that this country singer was really a closet chanteuse? Dyann Woody makes a seamless transition from 'Yee Haw' to 'Ooh La La'. She not only has the voice of an angelic siren, but what will amaze you even more is just how easy and pleasing her music is to listen to. She reaches across many genres and meshes elements of '70's singer/songwriter style, jazz, blues and pop with the art of a well-crafted lyric.

Although this is Dyann's first solo album, she has shared musical success with her husband as part of the Country Music Group, The Woodys. Their debut album on Rounder Records went #1 on the Americana charts; they were voted the Top County Vocal Duo at the International Music News Awards and have received worldwide critical acclaim for all three of their albums. However, there was still a part of Dyann that was musically unfulfilled. She wanted to write songs that expressed all of the emotions and experiences that she and other women h

Whether you call it praise music or New Jack gospel, this genre is most often a classic case of "preaching to the choir," with song lyrics lifted artlessly from the King James bible and histrionic music calculated to "reach out and touch somebody's hand." Dear god. Luckily, Charles Laster II and Silvia Pratesi don't make this mistake on their new record Journey of Life. Laster, who composed the excellent lyrics, and Pratesi, who created most of!

The Toronto Star noted that "they're [Kobo Town] a musical bridge between two cultures, and a tenuous link to what may be a dying folk art."

The announcement capped a hectic week for the band, with a successful showcase performance at the OCFF (Ontario Council of Folk Festivals) conference, where

A Brief History of Nothing MusicDish

by Phil Campbell,

In October 2007, legendary performer Charlie Nothing passed away at his Soquel California home. The following article was originally published in The Fretboard Journal, Number 6, Summer 2007. Charlie was pleased with the story, saying "I've had interviews and articles before but yours is the best by farS Thank you so much!"

Thank you Charlie Nothing! We miss you.

According to his official biography, Charlie Nothing "was not born, did not go to school, did not die," and his main instrument is the dingulator. Obsessive record collectors may recall his name from the 1967 LP The Psychedelic Saxophone of Charlie Nothing, one of the only non-guitar records released on John Fahey's Takoma label. Contemporary listeners might know Nothing from his powerful performance of dingulation, as he calls his music, in Chicago at the 2005 Two Million Tongues Festival. Featuring a roster of difficult-to-categorize musicians, it was the ideal venue for this difficult-to-categorize performer. Josep

The name Tony Senatore is not a household name when it comes to bass players. Chris Squire, Tony Levin and Jack Bruce are not mentioned in the same breath but I must say after hearing Tony's music and watching his new DVD A 12-String Bass X-Ploration, that I am convinced; he could play right alongside those legends. Tony is a very humble man and he knows his instrument. He knows it so well that he decided to share his love and respect with his instrument by recording an instructional DVD for those that want to learn more about the bass that was born in 1978. Even if you do not play the bass, there is plenty of enjoyment on this DVD visually and aurally...READ MORE...

After listening to Paul Cullen's new release Dreamdance I had a hard time envisioning him as the former bass player for the rock legends Bad Company. He has an interesting story; after departing from the band in the early 90s he decided to take control of his career, taught himself how to play guitar and took singing lessons, and here we are with an appealing solo album that grabbed me right from the first track. I cannot speak for everyone, but that's the way this CD affected me and I suspect there will be many other listeners that will feel the same way. Right from the first cut I felt relaxed and enchanted, and I was able to hold on to that feeling until the album concluded...READ MORE...

A Tale Of Gods Will (A Requiem For Katrina) is more than just another jazz record and much more than a soundtrack recording; it is an epic recording that, while rooted in jazz, reaches far beyond any single genre. Multi Grammy winner and New Orleans native Terence Blanchard and company have taken the material he wrote for Spike Lee's documentary "When the Levees Broke" and expanded it into a collection of tracks that is simply beyond category. The album reminds us of the musical gifts that New Orleans has given us, what has been lost, and what we are in jeopardy of losing in the aftermath of the flood...READ MORE...

Tony Adamo's STRAIGHT UP DEAL CD gets 5 STARS

Franki LaMantia

Marketing/UrbanZone Records

The world's #1 on-line Smooth Jazz destination has given Tony Adamo's new CD, STRAIGHT UP DEAL a five star rating. Sandy Shore, president and founder of Smoothjazz.com says the following about Adamo's CD: "There's a mystique to the San Francisco bay area at night that's unique to the City by the Bay. Over the years many artists have captured this vibrant, earthy electricity and stuck it in the middle of their musicSantana, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Tower of Power come to mind and a whole handful of jazz greats. Bay Area singer/songwriter, Tony Adamo fits perfectly into this fry with his deep, sultry, commanding voice and grasp for groove. Think Lou Reed but funkified."

You can find Sandy's review on Itunes and you can dig Tony's music at the Listening Loft at Smoothjazz.com.

Record Pools - Are You Swimming Yet? By Jaci Rae Jaci Rae
News Item
The winter months have hit us and unless you live in Southern California, most people aren’t swimming in open-air pools any longer. Until recent times, Indie Artists and the labels they set up for themselves had a hard time getting their music heard by anyone outside their own backyard pool of fans. With guerilla marketing finally becoming common practice and online music stores becoming a main stay for the music aficionado, record pools are now open for business to the general indie population. What is a record pool? Basically, a record pool is a membership of DJ’s that act as an intermediary between DJ’s and the music makers. The power behind a record pool is that it can reach a mass, global market in lightening speed. As of 2005, there are over 7000 DJ's and industry professionals who are part of this digital revolution. In order for a DJ to belong to a record pool, they must pay a monthly association fee to obtain the latest and most current music. Frequently this music is available to t
