I'm a 21 year old female from the North Eastern suburbs. I don't have any band experience yet but I do have some performance experience with my singing school. I prefer to do vocals though I can do some basic drums and a few chords on the acoustic guitar. I also write lyrics.

Open genre - a result of different players musical preferences and styles combining as one to form a unique sound.

Must have own transport, basic equipment and if you have a practice space that's a plus but not necessary.

Must be musically open-minded.

The musical circuits have been buzzing with tricks and high-wire acts during the first workshop of the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona. Over the last decade the Academy has hosted incredible collaborations between legendary music makers and up and coming producers in metropolises like Melbourne, New York, Sao Paulo and Cape Town. The renovated fabric factory that is home to this year's Academy has seen collaborations on more than thirty songs. The internationally renowned Rapper, NazB is coming to the UK this July to campaign for an end to knife and gun crime on the street. He believes that rappers have a unique role to play in stopping youngsters carrying knives and guns. He is appealing to fellow rap stars to support the cause.

Heavy beats, heavy flow, heavy lyrics…so much is heavy with this album that maybe Mike Street should have perhaps called himself Heavy Mike…had he actually been physically heavy. But for what Mike Street is, which is both in some cases original and in some not, it is worth putting your ear to his album The Man and The Dream. Whatever one could say about Hills Rolling, the moniker of one-man band Trey McGriff, you can't accuse him of having shallow roots. On his myspace page he lists as influences about one hundred or so bands and musicians. There are old schoolers (Otis Redding, The Beatles, Pink Floyd), new schoolers ( The Killers, My Morning Jacket), tweeners (Nirvana, Dinosaur, Jr.) electro types (The Cure, Depeche Mode) and eclecticians like him (Beastie Boys, Beck). No doubt this is in part a smart-ass commentary on the "what are your influences" question. It is also a list of people he has most likely listened to and is another way of saying that all the music he has heard, or for that matter, everything he has been through, is recorded by the brain, swished around by time, and reflected in his songs. Loves, hates, sounds, tastes, it's all in your head. Musically and lyrically, this message comes through loud and clear on his CD Sweet Tea.

Here we go again. Halfway through the slush pile, tossing 'em aside like pancakes at a Little League fundraiser, and allofasudden whoooaaa Nellie. Hang on, we got us a keeper.

Peter Bloom is a singer-songwriter who learned all the right lessons from John, George, Ringo and especially Paul - not to mention Elton John and John (Five For Fighting) Ondrasik. This is simply gorgeous piano/orchestral-based pop, carried to the next level by Bloom's insightful lyrics and full-bodied melodic sensibilities.

"Let It Go" is a knockout opener, a mid-tempo plea for resolution whose jangly guitar, thrumming organ and keening string accents help Bloom build to a soaring, affecting climax that sums up everything a good ballad should be.

The orchestral flourishes that open and color the fringes of "Walls" could have been lifted from Revolver, but weren't; these are original confections using familiar music

Whether you call it praise music or New Jack gospel, this genre is most often a classic case of "preaching to the choir," with song lyrics lifted artlessly from the King James bible and histrionic music calculated to "reach out and touch somebody's hand." Dear god. Luckily, Charles Laster II and Silvia Pratesi don't make this mistake on their new record Journey of Life. Their songs reference salvation, heaven, and living the Christian life but, like secular soul music, have an uplifting universality. They had it all at the point they made Antics. They mastered what made the general public melt, from the hooks to the lyrics. Then they moved into a new record label, to foreign ground. They could have just duplicated the method that has worked for them in their previous album. But what makes Interpol so respectable is the fact that they decide to take a different path every time, regardless of what their circumstances are. As a result, Our Love to Admire derives from an entirely new concept that is innovative yet also eyebrow-raising. Our Love to Admire is a very clean and well-produced album. On the other hand, a sense of emptiness lingers in the work. Perhaps the shortage of hooks, the lack of apparent direction, and the sleepy rhythm section all contribute to the vacancy. Songs such as “No I In Threesome” and “All Fired Up” are some of the best on the album, but they do not have the features that immediately grab a listener. Here approacheth another in a continuing series of reviews concerning Lifeforce Records and some of their roster's '08 output. It's always a good thing to become acquainted with labels, especially those within your favorite genres; it's the easiest way to continually find albums you'll be interested in hearing. Unfortunately, most of these Lifeforce efforts I've been hearing have fallen a bit flat. Not really awful, but no more than middle-of-the-pack stuff. This Or The Apocalypse is one of the younger bands onboard, and Monuments is their sophomore showing. The band, one of the modern hardcore/metalcore sound, is heavily dependant on the quick-fingered rambling of Jack Esbenshade and Rodney Phillips. Over the album's 45 minutes or so we're hearing the youthful passion most great metal needs, but channeled through formula and procedure, which dulls the impact. You're gonna notice right from the opening riffs of "No Horizons", that this band fits in the niche of "whatever"-core that's been a dominant scene for

Max Bemis tried to do something extravagant with Say Anything and their album, In Defense of the Genre. While upon first listen, it was fantastic, it lacked the lasting value. The special guests weren't used beneficially and they just felt out of place. Thomas Dutton took the concept of a musical, a magnificent story, and utilized special guest vocalists perfectly. And here we arrive Razia's Shadow: A Musical from Forgive Durden.The story is vague, Thomas Dutton has explained it as "The first half is the creation and ultimate division of the world. The second half is the story of destined love and the world being reunited as one." Which then implies some sort of mythology, Ragnarok-esque concept with imprints of science fiction (Casey Crescenzo plays O The Scientist) combined with a segue into Shakespearean love story--minus the tragedy, perhaps). Got that? Aaron Weiss from mewithoutYou tries to narrate throughout the album, but the tale is complex and hard to follow.I don't want to seem negative. Far from it

Sometimes, you just don't know what to say about an album. Here I am with Andy Bothwell--otherwise known as Astronautalis--and his latest album, Pomegranate, and I can consider myself wholy speechless. If perhaps, I ever unconsciously wondered what would occur if you took Atmosphere and mixed it with Beck, maybe I conceived this album as a possible result. When I say conceived, I mean imagined the kind of musical concept that is this album. Not once would I ever be able to create something this good. I came into this album expecting to be disappointed.
